As a fan of Disgaea, I'm excited. ...and at $20 I think I'll even pre-order.

I think I'll pick this up as well, but why is it so cheap? I'm not complaining because at that price, it's hard to say no. But I hope it's not at that price because it sucks.

If I had to guess it would be because it's a visual novel of an SRPG. Not exactly the biggest market.

Yeah, I'm not really sure there has been a pure visual novel on a console or handheld released in the US (or West) before. Most others that flirted with that genre were more adventure games or SRPGs (Sakura Wars)

I think there was a Metal Gear Solid thing, maybe.

There is a graphic novel for Metal Gear, not visual novel.

Can anybody elaborate as to what a "visual novel" consists of? Just straight up text/pictures/animation?

They are basically just text/pictures/voices, but every so often you get to make a choice from a menu. Do this or that or this other thing.

So essentially, it's just one long cutscene, right?

The easiest way to explain it is with this:

pretty much like i thought. when i said cutscene, i didn't mean big 3d scenes, i meant more like the cutscenes in disgaea 1 & 2, Portraits with text boxes.

This is interesting buuuuuut I'm more interested in an announcement for Classic Dungeon and Zettai Customization Hero Project. Make it happen, Atlus.

NISA, not Atlus. I'm not expecting Zettai Hero until next year. They've got a lot of stuff they need to bring over. I really like what I've seen so far of Zettai Hero so far, though.

The trouble is, NIS has mostly put out PSP stuff in the last year, while NISA tries to cover all bases (since PSP sales aren't too great in the West). So they can't keep up with all the PSP releases. (Though oddly they brought over the Badman/My Lord series which Sony published in Japan...)

I really want to like this and give all my money to the Disgaea franchise so it will keep churning out good stuff, but I don't really like what I see at all. I might buy it anyway though for $20...

NIS... give me disgaea 4!

Judging by the footage DiscoJer posted, it looks pretty good. It may not have the gameplay, but i really liked Disgaea 1's story.
