DS games are region free.
Your imports will work on the 3DS.

As for import 3DS games, there will be a region free solution created eventually so I'm that worried.

Yeah, I thought my DS games would be fine on the 3DS, but I wasn't certain. And when there's a way to play imports on the 3DS, I'll try it. To me it's not really about getting the Japanese version before a game comes overseas, but getting the good things that never come here at all. There's been some really good portable games that never made it here that makes the added expense and time (I can't plow through a Japanese text-heavy game quickly) worth it to me.

But the region-lock thing is only a small gripe. I'm really looking forward to my 3DS.

Sad to say, but I just cancelled my preorder for the 3DS. I was really excited for it a couple of months back but after seeing the list of launch game, I can wait.

Looking foward to picking it up with Zelda OoT or Metal Gear Soild 3 though. Make it happen soon Nintendo/Konami!

I've also canceled my 3DS pre-order a while ago, but have some regrets now. I'm glad to hear that those Augmented Reality cards are easily replaceable via copy/printer method. I can still see a viable market for those since TCG is still popular. Hopefully, it won't be a passing fad and can be utilized more in upcoming games.

Starting to get kinda worried, saw how quickly Japan sold out (And how inflated it is in price now). Hoping Gamestop gets in plenty of stock for all the pre-order's.

Thinking of putting a second pre-order down somewhere else just incase <_<....

Bunch of 3DS accessories went live on DealExtreme today. Car chargers, home chargers, cases, screen protectors. I think I may go ahead and place an order for some stuff. I imagine it'll be here by the time my 3DS arrives.

I'm waiting for CM4's 3DS case to appear on Amazon. Expensive but it seems very high quality, and they are the only company making something comparable to the case I got from PlayAsia for my DSL. I want something that is slim and provides protection, but isn't aluminum or plastic since those won't absorb low grade shock as well as something with strong, soft material.

I might go crazy and order it from the UK. At which point, I will be crazy.

Edit: On the subject of accessories, here's a list with links to Amazon for some officially licensed stuff. I like the "Messenger Bag" and "Mini Elite Transporter Case" and "Elite Transporter" cases. A bit on the expensive side, and I don't think if they are any better than what I already have, which is a beast to eat your nightmares.

Also, looks like screens of the 3DS Cave Story remake have surfaced. I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed, honestly. I wonder if its the case that it looks better in motion. The egg corridor looks excellent but the other two are quite paltry. I'll wait for more information to appear.

This also makes me wonder if Nintendo has plans to allow for demos of games to be delivered for retail releases. That would help. I doubt it's on the table but we won't know until May anyway.

I've think I've finally decided that I won't be getting any games for this at launch. My first game will probably be Ocarina of Time. I'm still going to get a 3DS at launch though. The price will obviously not drop in a long time and you never know how hard it may be to find one 3 or 4 months down the road.

I wish Nintendo had some demo units out at stores like Best Buy or Gamestop. I have been considering ordering a 3DS, but I am going to wait. I won't order one without actually trying the 3D effects out for myself.

I was actually never really interested in Cave Story, but the Nintendo Power issue this month made me a little more interested. Isn't that game crazy hardcore difficult, though?

Right, I mean even without 3d this thing has a lot of promise going for it. I, for one, am glad to finally see a portable version of virtual console. Sure, the 3d effect is the selling point but there are other things to be excited about this system for.

Cave Story's one reason I may buy this...not putting up with the download versions, so this is the first real release.

EDIT: Those bundles don't seem bad if the games are really $50 (which is pretty exorbitant if PSP games are going to keep costing $40 tops). But anyway, Street Fighter 4 bundle doesn't seem too terrible a thing.

You can always get the free PC version if you want to give it a shot. (Keep in mind it's also available on Wiiware and DSiware as well, although those are obviously losing reason to own as time goes on.)

It's largely inspired by the original Metroid titles. It feels halfway between Metroid and Super Metroid. There's a surprising amount of story inherent in the game that isn't immediately noticeable. Gameplay is very fun and the last part of the game encourages you to explore, because there's lot of little things to discover.

As for difficulty, it's definitely a jump higher than most modern games. Some of the bosses in particular are rough. The funny part is that despite that, the REALLY difficult parts are secret areas that you have to actively search for, and are dependent on how quickly you get through the game. So with that said, you can finish it and get an ending without too much trouble, and then try to find the real meat that puts hair on your chest.

So maybe you'd want to avoid that particular part, but then again, I'm not acquainted with your policy on torso follicular abundance.

I would imagine they will, then again it's Gamestop, they would do anything to make a buck. I still plan to head up there for an hour before opening to wait in line. If I don't get my preorder on launch day I will not be happy (Especially that I paid it off in full over a month ago).

I kinda really want my 3DS now because my original DS isn't that nice to play on anymore.

3DS games are topping at $39.99 right now, which means you're spending an extra $10 for whatever it was that bundle came with, some case or something. Unless it's really what you want, not a whole lot of reason to get it if you can just get it somewhere else.

But if the 3DS ends up being as hot hear as elsewhere, I'm sure those bundles will get snapped up, as folks won't mind paying the extra $10 just to get their hands on the thing.

Thanks for the detailed info on Cave Story, Strellomite. I'm not a fan of high difficulty; those kind of games tend to turn me off. But it's good to know that I can still play it and enjoy it without ripping my hair out.

I...I didn't know people still played the original DS. I think I would whimper every time I went to GameStop and saw that awesome demo station they have that shows the DS Lite and XL running side-by-side.

Not that I have an XL. I have the DSi. But yeah, there's no way I could go back to the original brick.

Heh heh, the news was so exciting this morning I had to go ahead and nab the official thread. It definitely deserved it.

I know I wasn't wildly impressed with Cave Story (DSiWare version). It just made me want to play Super Metroid. That's really not a bad thing, but I'd heard so many rave reviews that I was a little disappointed that it didn't make me coffee in the morning. So I'll be giving the 3DS version a pass. Really, the main reason I'm buying at launch is that I'm concerned I won't be able to get my hands on one if it takes off. I'm getting Pilotwings really only to play with the 3D, but that's just to try out the system until Ocarina/Master Quest comes out.
