Yes, add to the fact that the bootloader is locked so custom ROMs are unlikely to be made.

The problem was never rooting, the problem is that any firmware loaded has to be signed by Motorola. If they can crack that, fine, until that happens and it provides a way to flash a custom ROM then thats just dandy, Im just not holding my breath.

They also arent going to do anything until it gets Froyo at least, so it's kind of pointless to be trying anything with the current firmware.

Yeah true... 2.1 is pretty much outdated already and froyo is significantly better even the experimental Droid one is way better than the ota 2.1

As for the phones The Fascinate looks alright but I'm just not a fan of samsung...every phone I got from them broke within a month and my last samsung from verizon get replaced 5 times before I finally dumped it for an lg

There is no reason anyone should opt for an Incredible over the other two.
But the Sense UI is so pretty......

Honestly, if HTC made an EVO like phone for verizon, i'd be all over that. The size of the X with the Sense UI. Sprint sucks around here though, so that isn't going to happen until HTC actually builds one for verizon.

The X and Galaxy S are about the same size, and the captivate I messed with at AT&T didn't seem that big. Guess either should fit in a pocket pretty comfortably.

Actually looking around, there are any number of Sense-like launchers available, so I guess that isn't such an issue really.

I love my droid x too. Don't need a physical keyboard; swype works wonders most of the time, and it's still in beta.

And froyo is supposed to be released next week, do another moot point.

It fits fine in my pocket, but I haven't watched much on it; lagged on a ripped anime episode I tried to watch so far.

Whatever I get i'm going to try RockPlayer on it, looks like a fairly good video player that can handle lots of formats.I played with swype I think on the captivate and I couldn't get the hang of it. I thought that it recognized the letters you stop at, instead it was counting every letter i moved over.

You don't really stop; it's a smooth motion over the letters. It uses some heuristics to come up with the right word.

The Fascinate (Galaxy S series) have a similar feature as well, I forget what they call it though.

It just sucks that Verizon hasn't announced a date...rumor is late Sept. now

EDIT: NVM...its the same thing "Swype".

Good to see a few android users on here.. way to many iphone blowers on here

Anyways i was always a big fan of qwerty keyboards.. ive accustomed nicely to the Evo. Im hoping they can get the hdmi out to work with emulators.. been playing alot of psx lately

That being said.. the Samsung Epic interests me.. but most probably ill prob wait for next variation of Evo

How are the emulators on the Android? I'm eagerly anticipating playing NES, SNES games on the Fascinate when it finally comes sometime soon.

There's an SNES emulator, but it costs money, and the reviewed didn't seem too great. Looks like a port of SNES9X or something.

Got the x so far emulated everything up to and including psx fine except for some minor sound issues on the psx one. Swype works great and rockplayer has handled everything I've thrown at it and well

Buy whatever you want now, when it comes to phones you will be waiting forever because there is always a new model coming out anymore. If you wait for droid 2 when it comes out they will be talking about droid 3.

I have a htc droid and I love it, despite the fact I wished Id just stuck with my regular phone because I dont need all this shit and its to expensive. Im ditching it for a regular phone after my contract because its to expensive.

snesoid is pretty decent... they have lite versions that pretty much do the job for free on the market..

The Droid X is an awesome smart phone. A friend of mine just picked one up a few weeks ago and I've had the chance to play around with it. It's a bit larger than most smart phones on the market, but it isn't heavy and remains fairly thin. The screen is beautiful on the phone and it's highly customizable.

I'm thinking of switching to an android phone next year when my AT&T contract is up. I'm over the iPhone now, not being able to customize much without jailbreaking it sucks and when I have had mine jailbroken it always seems to run weird. I also hate the coverage I get with AT&T, it's pretty terrible at times.

Another happy X owner here. Unless you are really needing a physical keyboard I would stay away from the Droid 2.

The X would be perfect if you want the larger screen and the Incredible if not. I bought an Incredible for my mom and played with it a while before I sent it off to her and I liked it as well. My wife is holding out for the VZW version of the Galaxy S so eventually I will have played around in great detail with all 3 models.

Definitely love the Android OS for everything except gaming. It is capable of having great games and is more than powerful enough, just the market options are very lacking right now.

Maybe with the Open Feint devs starting to push Android OS it will get a little better but I don't really see things changing that much.
