EBgames had a decent trade in deal, but I'm sure that's over now. You traded in 4 non-sports games and could get the game and drive for $49.99.

Is RE:O supposed to use the HD? I thought it was just a dungeon crawl like diablo with zombies.

They said the load times were killer up to 20 seconds long. I can't imagine waiting that long everytime I enter a new room. Said the HD cuts the load times to nothing. And I figure down the road some other game will require the hd so I'll be set.

Is FFXI installed on the HDD or do you get the actual disc? I have heard conflicting reports about this.

And also, is there a way to get a few months free or cheap?

I have a Target Rain check for a PS2 game I wonder if it will work for FF XI? It is only for 23% off but that would still be a great deal.

It will probably come installed on the HDD but you;ll probably also get a utility disk "just in case". First 30days of FFonline is free... thats about all.

Yes it comes already pre-installed on the HDD and the disk will be included also. I was also wondering the same thing a while back and some CAGs were helpful about it. Also I've seen it online on their web page.

If they'd just lower the monthly cost to $5-10, I may actually play FFXI beyond my free month. I don't have enough time in the week to devote $13 worth towards this game.

SOCOM, however, is why I'm getting this HDD

I was at Target today, and saw that the official strategy guide they were going to offer with it is not going to arrive. So, instead they are knocking 15 dollars off the price, to $85. This was in St. Louis, MO, at the Target on Manchester.

I hate to be the pessimist here, but trying to get a a good deal on this game is an oxymoron.

Average price of Final Fantasy XI $99.95 (PS2) or $49.95 (PC)
First year of play (12 Months - 1 Month Free) X 12.95/Month = $142.45

Total Price of Game After One Year: $242.40 (PS2) or $192.40 (PC) Depending on your platform of choice.

Oh, let us not forget Taxes if applicable, Shipping if applicable, Expansion Packs, Additional Characters, and the Opportunity Cost (Read: Time Wasted Not At Work/School).

for your second year, assuming they do not increase subscription rate, just take ($12.95 + ($1.00 X Number of additional characters)) X 12 Months.

Sorry, could not resist. As you guessed, I can't fathom purchasing this for anything else other then it being Final Fantasy. Think I'll wait, pick one off of eBay complete and throw it in my Final Fantasy Collection. But it has a Hard Drive you say? We installed our own.

Square Enix/Sony aren't just making money, they are minting it.

Flamesuit on. Check.
Fire Extinguisher on Hand. Check.

I'm ready, let em rip.

Chris.
