I was hoping that these would be bonuses. Judging by the post detailing the next update, these are our PSN games for the next six months. I'm pretty pissed off over it. As a bonus, it would be pretty cool, but I didn't sign up for Genesis Plus.

Hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day. We’re continuing to spread the love around PlayStation Plus into March with four featured games, an early access demo for Playstation Move, and a discount on another PlayStation Network exclusive title – all coming to you on March 1.

As mentioned in an earlier post about the arrival of the SEGA Genesis Collection, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Sonic the Hedgehog for free and one month early from when it will be released to the rest of the PlayStation Network! Not that it needs much of an introduction, but SEGA is reviving the classic adventures as Sonic battles Dr. Robotnik for control of South Island. Speed through classic levels like “Green Hill Zone” as you unlock trophies in this piece of gaming history. The SEGA Vintage Collection also includes Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe 2, Altered Beast and many more – all free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog, we are offering downloads of a sequel of one of our favorite PSone series and a full game trial of one of our signature “Play, Create, Share” titles. We’re happy to release Spyro: Year of the Dragon, from Insomniac Games, which is the third installment in the PSOne series. This is a great follow up for any PlayStation Plus subscribers who downloaded Spyro the Dragon and Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage. Also, be sure to download the full-game trial for ModNation Racers, developed by United Front Games. With the highly active community there are tons of mods, karts and tracks to download and try out. PlayStation Plus subscribers will also get early access to the demo for PlayStation Move Heroes. Explore the familiar landscapes from the smash hit franchises Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper – ripped apart and rebuilt for the PlayStation Move Motion Controller.
Finally, our update includes a discount of 80% off on Blast Factor – one of the first PlayStation Network exclusives – and downloads for Enigmo (the new mini from Pangea Software) and Pix’n Love Rush, which are both being offered to PlayStation Plus for free two weeks prior to their release to the rest of the PlayStation Network.
As always be sure to check the full list of new items as well as items that are being taken down from the PlayStation Plus storefronts below:

I guess you only had to read the next post to know that is not the case

It does look like the sega games will be replacing the free PSN game for the next few months though. I don't mind really, I feared they'd exhaust the list of existing PSN games so they might as well switch it up from time to time.

I sorta care. There are still a lot of good PSN games to go, really. :L

one thing is we are getting 2 free new minis (ones that haven't been on the psn yet) instead of just one for this update... I know it's not quite a psn game, but well to be fair there are two updates in a month (actually there should be 3 next month) there isn't anything that says that the PSN game has to come at the start of the month o.o;

maybe because we have 3 psn plus updates next month we will get the psn game in the middle to spread out the content so that the end of the month doesn't completely suck.
Old 02-17-2011, 12:48 AM   #189
If these Sega games come with their own trophy lists, I won't mind it too much.

True. Maybe. I'm not too sad either way, as I've already got my money's worth dozens of times over.

Um, try reading it again...

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Free to PlayStation Plus subscribers)
  • Spyro Year of the Dragon (Free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, regular price $5.99)
  • Enigmo (Free and exclusive to PlayStation Plus subscribers)
  • Pix’n Love Rush (Free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, regular price $2.49)
  • PlayStation Move Heroes Demo (Free to PlayStation Plus subscribers)

That's a PSN game, a PS1 game, and two minis. That's what we usually get, although one mini usually comes later. Sure, there is another update for the month, but who knows what we will get, if anything. The PSN game has always been included in the first update of the month.

Sony's treating this like Sonic is the PSN game for the month, and until they say otherwise, that's what I'm going to believe. Trophies or not, I didn't pay for Genesis Plus. I paid for PlayStation Plus. I want PSN games and to me, an old Sega game that everyone and their mom has played isn't a replacement, even if they throw in an extra Mini. If it was one or two months, that's fine, but this is looking like six months straight of old Sega games instead of actual made-for-PSN games. That's nearly half my subscription, and not what I paid for.

My guess is that this Genesis collection will be considered March's free PSN game, even though it's being released over a six month period for some bizarre reason. People would be very upset if these were the free PSN games for six months. Given that Sony has been good about listening to PS+ complaints, I really can't see them doing that.

Yeah I was assuming this was all at once. If we get these all at once or over 2 months its pretty decent....if this is our next several months its hella lame.

How is the Penny Arcade games? I am debating on buying them if they are fun. Reason I am debating is I would have to go and buy a $20 card since I have like a buck in my PSN wallet.

Look at the dates listed that the games will be free for Plus members, each game gets about 4-5 weeks on the Store for you to download. This can't possibly take the place of all free PS+ content during that 6 month period.

First, a new free game is available on a bi-weekly basis, which means these Sega games are probably going to be every other "free" PS+ game along that timeline.

Getting these games for free is not all that great a value either, considering you can currently pick up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on Amazon for $15.79 and it has all six of these games on there plus over 30 other games on one disc. Do the math, that's under $3 for each Genesis game they're giving us "free."

It's a little disappointing if you ask me, given the fact that these are really more like getting PS1 Classics rather than a new PSN game (such as Shatter or Stacking). Especially for anyone who may already own the Genesis Collection. I nearly bought this a couple weeks ago, glad I didn't now...

I agree; this really looks like these are the monthly free PSN titles. To which I also say, "BOO!" They just had the PSP Genesis Collection on sale (which I bought), never mind the fact that I own these games several different ways (including the Genesis cartridges).

I just hope I'm misinterpreting.

Ah, sorry. I believed that mini was actually a new PSN game. Guess we will have to see as time passes then.

For those people with ps+, does Stacking have an expiration date like other giveway ps+ games?
and if not, is this a glitch, is the expiration simply misleading or will stacking stay active once a ps+ sub ends?

The way it usually works is we get a free PSN game, mini, and PS1 game in the first update of the month. Then in the second update two weeks after that, we get our second mini along with Qore and other stuff like themes and avatars.
