Hey this is a nice thread but can I request you add something to the OP? The expiration dates are MUCH sooner than printed. For instance, the priest ticket at the end of the month is 7/31. However, if you try to use it now it will not go through because it is no longer showing at theatres. The actual expirations for all these 'free tickets' are not the printed dates but whenever they stop showing the movie. I printed one of the priest ones and went to the ticket counter and the guy told me since they are not showing priest any more they can not take the ticket. Sucks but it is what it is.

It's too bad they won't take it anyways as they would be re-reimbursed...however how would the studio know if they are not playing the movie any more? I can totally understand if it was used 3 months after the movie came out...but sometimes either people don't have time to see it during the first two weeks or it's completely gone within 2 weeks if it's a bad movie/non profitable movie.. Lost my free passes to source code because of this :(

Basically, you do have to use some common sense with it -- if the movie isn't doing particularly well, or if there are a ton of other newer, hotter movies coming out (I mean, how do you even expect Priest to compete with X-Men, Pirates, etc.?), then it's not going to be around as long. Even more so if you live in a smaller area with less theaters. It should also be common sense (even if you didn't bother to read the ticket, where it's clearly stated) that once the movie in question is gone, the movie cash for it will no longer be valid either (technically, the theater isn't supposed to be accepting it for other movies, even if they will do so). Basically, when you get movie cash, you shouldn't just sit on it indefinitely. If a movie is doing well, you're probably ok waiting a little while, but if there are signs that the movie is dying off, you should make sure to use it while you still can. |

One thing that you also got to look out for is some of these free tickets say DISCOVER on them. Some theaters don't accept Discover. What is weird is that the other day when me and my gf went and used 2 XM:FC tickets, we were told they could not be used because they don't take discover cards. Manager came in and tried the transaction. On one attempt it wouldn't take them, so he tried again. Second attempt 1 ticket was valid for the full 12 and the second ticket only 6. Third attempt at this for some reason it didn't want to go at all for both of them. Frustrated, he ripped up the tickets and threw them away and said come with me.... he then said go ahead and enjoy the movie on me!
So call ahead of time before you go to the theater to see if they accept discover if the ticket said discover on it or else you might run into technical difficulties. |

As long as you go to a theater that's on the list on the offer website, you shouldn't have a problem. Pretty much all of these deals make you specifically select the theater you'll be going to precisely to avoid problems with people trying to use the certificates in theaters that can't or won't accept them.

Well that's funny because the theater we went to was listed as one of the theaters that accepted them. Heck I originally was going to see Hangover 2 in one theater but at the last minute we decided to go to the closer one and it went thru no problem. |

Not sure how it is where you are, but around here at least, the people behind the ticket counter are far from the best and the brightest. I've learned to always allow an extra 15 minutes at the theater that we go to when we have movie cash, because it takes the woman that we usually get there that long to complete the transaction on two tickets. She always gets it right in the end, but she's never quick about it. |

Yea I don't know what was going on with his screen but I could tell he was getting frustrated after several attempts so he pretty much said
it and gave it to us for free. I was even willing to pay the 6 dollar difference. He did say however that they don't have enough staff to watch everyone coming in and out...............hmmmm..... not a good idea to tell customers that. As for the passes themselves, my guess is that because he did not complete the transaction, it did not send the information out and therefore the passes were still good when he ripped them up and let us in for free.

Well I didn't read all of the fine print but the expiration date clearly states 7/31 so I printed the 'ticket' and went to watch xmen without checking if priest was still playing. Well it wasn't so I had to pay for it. It seems like most of you guys are so smart to figure this all out but I bought the 3 blu rays with the priest tickets with the intention of using it until 7/31. Seemed logical to me. They should have said the expiration is whenever the movie stops showing at the theatre. But that would mean the expiration is sooner making the blu rays less desirable. If I had known this initally, I would've just bought 2 instead of 3. Just putting it out there for anyone else that plans on holding the tickets for a while. Use them shits up!

When I see a free movie pass on a movie, I am wondering if it is going to be bad. Some free passes to movies were great don't get me wrong...but I am wondering how much money these studios are losing by doing this..... |

are you serious? Do you research before going to the movie to see if your theater is still playing it.. if you see a sudden drop to either later showings or only like 3 or 4 showings a day....then it's pretty much about to get the boot by that friday (when the new movie comes out). |

I'm not a fan of Rotten Tomatoes rating. People see a squashed tomato and assume the movie is horrible but those reviews come from critics that movie snobs.
The Hangover Part 2 and On Stranger Tides are at 35% and 33% with critics but 94% and 64% with the audience. Are these movies going to win major awards? No. Are they going to be entertaining to Joe Schmoe? Probably. That being said I don't have high expectations for GL but I'm sure it will be entertaining for a boring summer day. |
