I think I'm reaching a point where I'm about done with Hastings' used books. The last several books I've received are in such shit used shape that it basically negates the discount I'm getting on them. Tons of broken corners on hardcovers, pages with edges rolled in dirt... it's pretty low trade in standards over there these days. And I never had a problem with them shipping books in the bubble mailers before, but now most of mine are arriving with huge tears in them and that can't be helping things either.

I feel you on the torn bubble mailers. Somehow, mine ALWAYS looks like it was run over with all these black marks and tears all over it.

Good news is that I got the two Dragonlance box sets I ordered for $7 each in a recycled box (?) and they're in pretty great condition for how old they are.

I bought nine comic trades in the last sale, most came in acceptable condition. One had a few pages with bent corners, one had a tear on the spine of the dust jacket, and one was a tpb that had slightly more damage and creased pages.

Gah, now you've got me all scared. I ordered a hardcover this past weekend and I have yet to receive it, but I'll be sure to post the condition once it arrives. I've been a bit wary to order used tpbs from them, the prices seem a bit too good to be in any kind of condition other than poor. The one NEW hardcover I received from them, though, was pristine. That's the one saving grace, I suppose.

Did you end up returning the books, by the way? Or did you keep them even though they were in crap condition?

Anyone familiar with buying used DVDs from them? Do they usually come with the case and art insert? They have really cheap DVDs I want to get with the 30% off promo, but I don't want to end up with like 20 DVDs with no case. =/

The few times books have come in TERRIBLE condition, for instance i've had two that had their binding completely separated from the cover, pages falling out, i've gotten a refund for. I also got a refund for two other books with significant damage.

I've probably bought 100 used trades from Gohastings over the last two years, i keep coming back, the vast majority have been in decent or better condition, especially hardcovers. Paperbacks don't survive as well being mailed in a bubble mailer, you're bound to have some creasing somewhere. If you buy a moderately recent hardcover, chances are it will be in decent/good shape.

Just my experience, but all of my DVDs and Blu-rays came in their original cases and with original cover art, and usually with inserts. Funny, but some of them were actually brand new, still factory sealed!

The one's I have bought have always been in pretty good condition. The problem I have with buying cheap DVD's from them, is the shipping usually costs more than the DVD itself, especially when you use the 30% off code. I usually wait for a free shipping code to snag a few cheap DVD's up.

If you buy used DVDs/blus they should always come with at least the case w/artwork. They don't always have the inner insert though. I haven't bought many previously viewed but since they were rentals they might come in a generic case.

I have bought a number of books, including game guides. It has been a real hit and miss situation. Some are in pretty poor shape and some have been brand new and sealed. You just never know. Some are listed as "used perfect". I received a game guide listed as such and it was in like new condition.
