I found one sealed at a best buy near me at regular price. Should I pick it up?

And I am doing the same as someone else in this thread, im calling Overstock today and im giving them a piece of my mind and telling them if they want me to even consider shopping with them again that i want some compensation like a 20 dollar credit. Because whats the point in buying something at a certain price, no forewarning of "this item may be out of stock soon"...nothing, and i order with full confidence...and get TOLD specifically my order is being shipped that day, that is ed up. And I want some compensation for it.

Any latest updates on whether or not if Amazon.com is still posting new guides up for sale intermittently? (At that ~$23.xx price-point.)

You know, for as much as people bitch about Overstock/B&N, the real problem here is you guys had months to pre-order on Amazon but decided to try and get an insanely popular guide at launch through the least reliable avenues. Go pony up the $40 at BB if you're in so dire need of it and learn from your mistake.

Hey, you know youre right! Except....guess what? I had it originally pre ordered from september i believe from Amazon. For whatever reason amazon had messed something up in my pre order so i had to seek an alternate method since at the time there was no listing for the sale price.

So the only other sale price going was Overstock on the 11th that I found and was what i would of considered to be a viable option.

Yea...maybe you should realize that sometimes its not always what it seems.

I have never, ever, not even once, had amazon not deliver on an item I prerodered a few weeks in advance. So what exactly did "Amazon" mess up in your preorder?

I think someone prematurely thought that was sign of a reprinting.. while it may be i'm not convinced. It is doubtful that a company would reprint a guide a week into its release and already have them available to retailers. While it may get another reprint I don't think it has happened yet. That most likely was excess inventory or cancelled preorders.

I haven't seen it come back in stock, even momentarily for some time

Yeah, I wasn't even going to bother with a response to that since it's fairly suspect.

Ordered from Books A Million. Says ships between 2-4 weeks. I bet they're just out of stock and hoping to get more, then they won't and it'll get canceled.

And yes, it's on me that I didn't order early but originally I wasn't planning on playing this game. I'm too far in Dark Souls to pick up something else but the wife wants to play it and who am I to deny her request to get a game? It's rare.

How exactly did Amazon mess up something in your pre-order?

You're not detailing what that is, so the only thing I could see being an issue is the following:
* Invalid payment method because your credit card expired in October or November. An easy thing to fix because they'll alert you to the issue and ask you to put in a new payment method, which they'll try pretty much immediately after the update.
* Invalid ship-to address. They'd be pulling this from your Address Book or an entry you manually inputted at time of order, so if it wasn't correct, it would have been incorrect since the last time you used this incorrect address, or you input it wrong at time of order. Another easy thing to fix, as it'll be visible in the order if you looked on it any time before it ships out.
* You canceled the original order and remade a new one to lock in a lower price, which should have auto-updated on the original order within 48 hours after the price dropped. Canceling an original order and making a new one drops you down the queue in order fulfillment.

Not sure what else it could be, so details clarifying the issue would be helpful to see how Amazon screwed it up. That way, we can avoid this issue you had with your order.

I've ordered numerous guides from Amazon, usually with at least as much lead time as your preorder, and they've occasionally missed the release date for shipping. If they did, it was shipped within 3 days of release date without a single issue.

Love the Amazon defense force in here! Amazon does seem to work super hard on not over selling allocation. I'm with Jodou, it's my fault I forgot and ended up taking a chance on Overstock.

Ultimately I had a good deal at Best Buy so it wasn't all bad but I'm still amazed and impressed this guide has the value it does.

My fun question for the thread is do you think its value is coming more from demand or rarity? I find it hard to believe they would print so few.

Does it really matter what happened with his order? It's done and over. We all learned a lesson about dealing with Overstock. Move along now......

In defense for EdgeofThorns, Amazon screwed up many pre-orders for those who pre-ordered Valkyria Chronicles art book.

Amazon cancelled several orders for no reason, and the product was removed from the site. However, they re-listed it several hours later at a higher price than the price those people pre-ordered it.

Many people had to go through CS to get it fixed. Amazon is great, but they are not always perfect.

hmm looks like mine shipped on the 15th. I really really hope it comes in mint condition. Amazon has been HORRIBLE about guides/artbooks/LE's lately. Honestly i think im about through with them for stuff like that. There seems to be no consideration or thought in their packaging process. WHen i order a collectors edition or a nice hardcover or artbook i expect the damn thing to be mint and packaged right

If it comes in messed up (like most of my Dark souls guides were) i'm not sure what i can do. It looks like they have none up for replacment. I guess i better start scanning BB's and GS's for a copy to swap out if thats the case

Yea im not saying Amazon isnt awesome most of the time, im just saying they jacked up my order...theres been orders with games especially where people are just "waiting" around for their items with no word and then the roof fall in on it, its happened before to many people and with this guide i was not messing around.

What i hate though more than anything is just because something never happened to anyone else, they just automatically assume the other person is just making shit up...thats really bothersome.

I would not just for the fun of it make something up for the hell of it or stretch what happened. Amazon was not shipping my item promptly, and they had no word on it...and i knew a few other people that werent getting the green light on their orders.

And i panicked because i didnt want to lose out on getting this guide so since i knew the sale prices wouldnt last long and I ordered with Overstock, and that very day they charged my account.

I had never heard anything bad about overstock before, so when i noticed that it was release day and amazon had still not charged my card, had no word yet on the order and Overstock had it for even a "lower" price and charged my card, i then went ahead and canceled amazons order.

But like said above, amazon is generally good and i have no major qualms with amazon...they are great but not perfect.

And on that note, mine has been shipped from BestBuy...40 bucks, worth every cent.

No, that isn't the "real" problem. If purchasing an item from a different retailer is necessary to ensure your order is fulfilled then the problem does, in fact, lie with Overstock and not consumers who purchased an item from them that was advertised as being in stock.

As for people learning from their mistakes I think it's pretty clear that's what is happening here already without your input. People who had never ordered anything from Overstock before are learning not to do business with them in the future.
