I have one as well for my laptop when I travel. And I had read that there is a select few games that dont work with the wireless pad but work with this but I haven't run into any.

I still prefer the wireless one though because its so easy to attach up to four pads that I can take from my Xbox.

They have a current promotion going on that added $5 to a lot of my games. For example, I got $14.90 for Left 4 Dead 1 and $10 for Tomb Raider Anniversary. All in all, I think I came out pretty good.

Now I'm set for the summer and winter sales!

My first purchase to celebrate was the $5 Dear Esther. That game looks terrific. Even if it ends up being a buck or two cheaper this summer, I'll totally bite for $5. Jonathan Blow said it was one of the most narrative impressive games he had ever played and that is enough of a recommendation for me.
Did the cashier's face fall when you spent it all on Steam cards? And can you pass a couple of them my way?

It is possible that if I sold everything individually I would have come out ahead, but I think I probably came pretty close because there is no way people were going to give me what I got for some of those games (like $15 for Left 4 Dead 1).

In the past, I have used Half.com to sell a lot of stuff, but really even if I ended up netting an extra $30 or so after ebay/Half.com fees, the work of constantly checking, packing, and shipping stuff is probably worthy $30 of my time and hassle given how much stuff I sold.

On an only-slightly more serious note, I'm waiting for Summer sale for Dear Esther and passing on Mini Ninjas. Anyone who doesn't have PvZ, though, should definitely pick it up.

The games you probably did well on. The iPad 1 though is worth about that much on its own.

No, he was totally happy to get the trade in.

I did spend $15 on a GI subscription renewal because I was only one month from running out.

I figured I'd throw him a bone with the renewal and the thing really did more than pay for itself (this time alone, for example having that card netted me an extra $27).

It looks like they typically go for about $200 on ebay. Take out ebay's fees (initial plus 9% so probably around $20 at least) and that knocks it down to about $180 or so. I got $150 for it and didn't have to deal with the hassle or wait, so it isn't too bad.

Plus like I said, I got to get rid of it all at once rather than piece meal selling stuff and shipping stuff for a period of months.

So did it just cost you $50 to buy a $50 gift card? Is Gamestop getting a discount from the gift cards from Valve or is there a fee? Curious how Gamestop is making money from this though I suspect that maybe they're getting a small cut from each sale for each gift card purchase.
Old 05-15-2012, 05:22 PM   #3369
Yeah it's an even trade dollar for dollar.

Even if it's a penny GameStop is making money, and taking up almost zero shelf space. Shelf space is the biggest factor especially in a store like GameStop. Gift cards are free money.

They also just increase their trade in revenue from people like me who aren't interested in buying console games any more.
Old 05-15-2012, 05:41 PM   #3372
I just realized I have a few more games and even some old PS2 games taking up shelf space. I think I'll take them up Best Buy this afternoon.

Best Buy only curently gives about $0.50 a piece for old Playstation 2 games (and that is after the extra 50% and bonus for being a card member!). However, I just don't want this clutter any more. I never play these games. I'm tired of physical media. I probably would eventually end up throwing them away or donating them, so any extra cash I get is just a bonus. They are basically paying me money to take shit I don't want and will never use.

I checked their website and I have enough left over stuff that I can pick up Diablo 3 for about $10 if I trade in all this stuff. I'm considering going up to do that in a bit. Spring Cleaning + Free games.

While Blow does have a chicken in this pot (the game was partially funded by him), I agree. It's been on my wishlist since the day it came out, and it was one of my favorite gaming stories of the year how successful it was, having paid back its funding in under 6 hours, even being the top-selling game on steam that day. Instabuy for me today.

Beware! It is way easier to go nuts hoarding a crap ton of games you never, ever play when you don't have all the boxes around smacking you in the face.

That is so true, I am looking at my 14 console game collection compare to my 200+ steam collection that I mostly bought during the winter sale after I got a job. ...... Summer sale is a coming ..
Old 05-15-2012, 06:02 PM   #3376
Yeah, I know that. I've been using Steam for a couple of years now. But I'm pretty good about eventually playing the things I buy. For instance, I bought Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl nearly two years ago and I finally started playing it last week and love it (about 20 hours in now). Frankly, though, even if I only play game for an hour or two, if I enjoy that experience, that is worth tossing a couple of bucks at the developer.

It's a lot easier to have that mentality when:

1) you don't have physical shit lying around

2) The games literally cost you as much as a morning coffee.

I'm ok with having a bunch of games I only play a little. I just don't want spend $60 on that sort of game or have all the plastic shit lying around.

How can you guys be so sure that Dear Esther will be in the Summer Sale?

Granted I've never experienced a Summer Sale yet, so I wouldn't know how they work, but..

I bought it.

For me, if I buy the game really cheap or part of a "charity" bundle, then I tend to buy most of their DLC without question. I bought Killing Floor when it was $10 and I have boguht all of their DLC costume when they come out.

Yeah, there's no real risk waiting for the summer sale if you want Dear Esther. It'll be 50% off at the very least.
