I don't understand how you think you're right. Buying new is still supporting developers because publishers will get money for it and will be a deciding factor for a sequel or to keep the developers around. gettinmoney is right when he said buying new at $15 is better for publishers then people how buy used at $50 or $55.

but buying it at 15 new isnt better than buy it it at 60 new which is what developers really want which is my point. if a person is really so into supporting devs then wouldnt the best way to support them be to buy it at its full price?

What publishers and developers want is to make any kind of money which they don't get from used sales. Nobody really has money to buy every game at $60 which why I think when gaming goes fully digital that they will lower the prices a bit and something similar to the steam system.

So now lokizz is saying you either support the developers completely or not at all. That's entirely rational.

exactly so whats wrong with someone buying a used game. that fact that its used means someone at some point bought it new after that its up to the person who owns it what they do with it so they trade it in to gamestop for credit and now its gamestops property to do with as they please.


like someone else mentioned if developers are so against gamestop and other stroes selling games used then buy the damn games back from the people who bought them and then you can sell it yourself. theyre only pissing and moaning because gamestop beat them to the punch and now even after coming up with online codes ( which now include shit that has nothing to do with online play like rage or arkham city) they just want more money. just like charging money for dlc already on the disk.

you all want to blindly hold onto your flawed beliefs in the greater good of the developer fine do it but you cant ignore the hypocrisy in it all. you will of course so you can walk some imaginary high road of " I pay for new shit" but used shit was once new shit so they got their money.

The way to support them is buying new regardless of price. The price differences are irrelevant from the publisher side because its the store who receives that money, not the devs. The pubs and devs already received the money.

The problem is, that if used games are being sold and new arent, then the store wont buy anymore new games, because they still have plenty inventory. Thus, the dev and publisher wont get more sales because stores wont need anymore.

Then devs see that although they only sold 1 million, there are 3 million players. To them, thats 2 million potential sales that they should have seen, but didnt. And its not a argument of "these players wouldnt have ever bought it", because (for at least a good number of them) they would and did. And its not because the game was used, its because it was cheaper. And for a lot of cases, its to save $5-10 bucks. But when the new price lowers to that amount, used sales lower too and still get the sale. Its another hypocritical thing some gamers do.

So we can say greed is what drives companies, but it drives buyers too. But whereas gamers do it to save a few bucks, companies need money to make up for the cost of development and staff. When they dont make up costs, devs close or companies dont bother with sequels because why woulnt they expect the same result?

Theres a lot of issues to tackle with this whole problem. Its not the fault of just one side.
