Microsoft has a 4MB limit on patches for the vast majority of games. The only exception to this rule that immediately comes to mind is the ~15MB patches for CoD games, a far cry from the 150MB+ that would be involved sending all those SFxT characters.

Sony charges companies for the bandwidth used to send content over PSN. Capcom could pay that fee out of the goodness of their heart or they could just pass that cost on to consumers in one form or another.

I'm not going to argue about the Limit size because I know nothing about it. But the fallout 3/NV DLC was way bigger than 4mb, and I'm sure there are others.
And either way, they're passing the cost on to us.

From what I found the 360 versions of the Fallout 3 patches were under the typical 4MB limit and the New Vegas patches fell under the 15 MB exception that I mentioned earlier. Again, that's not nearly enough space for SFxT to push new characters through a mandatory patch. There could be a game on the 360 that has done exactly that, but if so it's one that I'm not aware of.

so sony has an agreement with namco for extra characters and they are bringing it to the vita? why not bring it on ps3 instead? i would rather have it on xbox, but if it's going to be on either a console or handheld, then i would rather have it on ps3 than not having it on any console at all.

who plays a fighting game seriously on a handheld? i have ssf4 on 3ds and i play it casually. i would think sony would sell more copies if it was released on ps3.

Having the DLC characters unlocked from the start provides some incentive to buy the game on a platform that isn't exactly ideal for fighting games. If the PS3 was equal or superior to the Vita version which launched six months later, they'd be looking at even less sales for the Vita version.

150+? The characters are on the disc. It would be a 1mb unlock code

He was suggesting that providing the DLC characters via a mandatory patch rather than the on-disc approach Capcom took might have been a better idea.

I'll keep everyone posted if this goes up or down in the future, I usually work 5 days a week and check price changes every two days.

I'll make more posts if I see anything interesting. I won't post YMMV if It's a universal Wal-Mart rollback/price change.

For those still looking for this game, I recommend you check out your local Target. I was able to find the SE for 34.98. It was in the clearance section.
