Look on the bright side, they're helping you save money by not pre-ordering.

They have posted in their game tutor/forum thing that the discount will not work for specific titles. Mostly EA titles it seems, which makes sense that they would bitch about it. I tried to get Dead Space 3 at 20% off from its $39.99 but it didn't provide the 20% off, most everything else still works with though.

Well, I just bought Kane & Lynch 2, I can't say exactly why. It was only $3. I always looked at it during steam sales (and the old Square Enix steam bundle) but the reviews were always down on it. Some players find it revolting, which adds to my curiosity. Also looking at the emulation of Poisson noise and CCD sensor readout smear added to my curiosity. I guess $3 was just cheap enough to not wonder about it any more, and simply try it... someday.

@Ashes

I liked K&L2. It's surely A LOT better than the original.
Good, but not great.
Mind you - and I did like the original, even despite its issues (G4WL-equipped, not-so-good cover-system, technical issues & performance issues).

And when it comes to PC ports of Square Enix and Eidos' games - In Nixxes, I trust....

A lot? Really? How so?

I liked the original for the mature, serious story. From the looks of it, 2 seems really silly.

Most importantly - K&L2 ran & looked WAY better than the original.
Nixxes did a good job w/ this PC port, which flat-out required Steam.

Both games are pretty ridiculous & over-the-top, actually....
...which is one of the reasons I liked them.

Yeah, I will appreciate better graphics and cleaner gameplay, but I don't think K&L is really that accomplished of a cover shooter anyways...

Well, the events in K&L were a bit wild (smashing a 5 story tall truck into a prison, and then killing everything that moves, to free your old partners) , but the underlying story was very deep and serious. Sort of like a modern day western. What's the theme of the story in 2?

Thanks for that. Most people seem to say that the sequel is better, in a more refined way.

Speaking of over the top, I've been playing a smidge of Saints Row 2. I'm only a few hours in (and I've gotten hopelessly distracted by the side activities), wow I think it's more over the top than SR3, less refined but more over the top.

One of the weak-points of K&L1 was cover was dodgy & wonky. You'd walk up to cover - and it'd sometimes stick to cover when you didn't want it to; or didn't stick you into cover when you wanted to.

Cover mechanics were much better in K&L2 - as you hit a button to jump in and out of cover; i.e. like Gears of War, GTA4, Spec Ops, and numerous other games of this kind.

Lynch is in Shanghai w/ his girlfriend - and then input the typical anti-hero criminal fanfare: Kane & Lynch do one last job to try to retire, as again crap just begins to hit the fan...

For $3 - yeah, it's short SP game (took me about 8 hours) - but it's fun. It's certainly worth $3.
{shrug}

It's a damn shame that MP didn't have a lot of maps; nobody played the MP much; and that it was a pain to get a MP game going - MP mode is FUN, if you could get a game going...

Bingo - K&L2 is better in pretty much every way over the original. It's definitely much more refined, i n terms of gameplay mechanics and its actual technical performance.
Of course, like K&L1 - some of the stuff that happens in the K&L2 game is just sp over-the-top, ridiculous, and LOL funny...
...such as the naked shootout level.

Oh, I don't know about SR2 vs. SR3. IMHO - SR3 is probably more outlandish, off-the-wall & crazy-funny than SR2.

Eh, that's the thing. That story sounds pointless/without emotional hook. The first game was very focused on that modern day western/family/redemption theme, and it accomplished it very well, with a very mature, bleak tone (especially at the end, with the dual achievements "Damned if you do..." and "Damned if you don't." where saving your daughter means leaving your friends to die, and saving your friends STILL gets them all killed, along with your daughter) . That ending was ing powerful. If it's just "another job before retirement" with a bunch of wild antics in between, my interest kinda dies.

K&L isn't amazing series as far as gameplay goes, refined or not. It's the story that grabbed me.

I got it in the Amazon Square Enix bundle for $7.50 ages ago.

It still works on pre-orders. Works on Tomb Raider, for instance. I think some publishers just have pretty firm "no discounts" rules on some upcoming games.

Now, GG did say they would find alternate compensation when they couldn't offer 20% off directly such as 20% refunded in blue coins. To the best of my knowledge, they've upheld this promise exactly zero times.
