I closely compared the xl to the dsi's screen before buying the XL and you couldnt tell the difference. Ive since gotten out of handhelds but i also owned a psp and the XL was by far my more preferred system.

The DS was the last great handheld IMO, IMO the new handhelds cost too much for what little USEFUL features they offer over their predecessors. I remember when you could get a GBA for $80 or less and games maxed out at 29.99. This was the golden age of handheld gaming. Now the systems cost as much as home consoles and the games max out at $39.99. Its just not worth it anymore. The only feature of the new handhelds that I have actively used is online play and even that only for certain games. Other than that I am putting in a game and playing, just like everyone else. I really wish someone would make a simple handheld that plays games and connects online. I don't need features like near or streetpass since they are very useless to me since no one else uses them around here and I do not have the means to get to an anime or gaming convention since those are basically the only types of places those features are useful, and they just drive up the cost of the device. I also don't need a web browser and an MP3 player on my handheld, I have an iPod touch for that.

The DSi handhelds disappeared from the future ad listing, but they'll still drop the price because of Nintendo's price drop announcement. Not everything in the paper ad shows up in the future ad preview anyway.

On the next week, there is a $10 coupon with a DSi purchase for SYWR members, along with a funny typo for the PS3:

If they somehow manage to list the PS3 for $25 on their paper ad, similar to what they did with Skyward Sword...

The problem that Sony and Nintendo face is that your iPod touch also already plays games and connects online as well. These extras on the 3DS and Vita, 3D & backtouch, it's just Sony & Nintendo trying to offer you something that your iPod/iPhone doesn't already do in an attempt to justify selling you another piece of hardware. I can see what you're trying to get at though. I'd be happy with something the size of an iPhone that had a physical D-pad and a few face buttons.

Doesn't even have to have a web browser, just needs to connect online with games. DS Lite was perfect for this. The handhelds that are out now (3DS and Vita) have almost unusable web browsers. On the iPod touch everything has an app, so you don't really need to use the actual web browser that much, even though when you have to, it does work. I would definitely be happy with an iPhone sized portable that had even a d-pad and 2 face buttons. For the cost of the current portables, Sony and Nintendo haven't convinced me yet. These handhelds just don't have the support of apple's App store, and they cost the same as an iPod touch, Sony's portable costs more than the 32GB touch if you add in the memory card (especially the 32GB one), making my 32GB touch look like a fantastic value.

The major advantage of the DS is long battery life, and for $99, its definitely affordable alongside an iPod touch, especially if you are going to be staying in one place for a long time without access to an outlet. A big fault of the iPod touch/iPhone is that the battery life absolutely sucks on them, you might only get 1 1/2 or 2 hours of gameplay before it dies, and if its an iPhone, that leaves you nothing to use the phone features with.. But any more than $99, and they are not convincing me, especially since the game libraries for both the 3DS and the Vita are abysmal, for me personally at least and if I want portable games with buttons, I already have a DS.

There are games that equal the DS's games on the iPod touch, heck some of the games are even the exact same games, stuff like phoenix wright and ghost trick. RPG's play well with the touch screen too, since instead of mashing the A button you just mash the screen. I just got 2 RPG's by kemco I think it is that are easily equal to RPG's on the DS and they were .99 each.

That says May 27th; surely they'll catch that. That would be too funny.

Locking this because there is another thread about the price drop.

I'll reopen next week if kmart.com still has the $25 PS3 price for the 5/27 - 6/2 week.
