This man, from China (of course!), is selling illegal Chinese reproductions of top tier box sets, such as the large Beatles set in the link. Due to the price, it appears many people fell for it. I didn't even know the Chinese did this, until I was searching for this very set, saw the outlandish price, noted his location, and put two and two together. After a short amount of research, I learned the Chinese have flooded the marker with these items, and specifically the one in the link. There's a reason why he's made everything private. He's also listed no details, so after the sale, no one can claim the item is not as described. Many of his sales are recent (I think, the listing seems new), so if he's reported and banned, maybe many of these people will be able to get a refund from Paypal. He'll just make another account though, more than likely, or maybe he'll head on back to one of his horrid Chinese bootleg-ridden websites, like iOffer. Either way, a scamming scumbag like this deserves to be banned!

Pointless. Ebay is ridden with bootleggers and they don't care. That's one of the reasons I stopped selling there.

Agreed, ebay won't do anything without solid proof, and he has 100% positive feedback with stock pictures. He's safe, unfortunately.

EDIT: Maybe I was looking at something different actually, the item is gone...

Unfortunately, welcome to eBay. This is how it's been with GBA, DS, DVDs, & other media for years now. Stay far away from Asian countries and be extra careful when buying any media from sellers in the U.S. who seem to list similar groups of items as well. It's just as easy for U.S. sellers to import mass quantities of bootleg from overseas.

I don't ever think of buying suspect items from eBay unless it specifically mentions "authentic" or "U.S. Retail version" in the description. Your safest bet is to avoid eBay for items that are high in the bootleg dept.

Amazon resellers are slowly becoming suspect as well.
Half.com is much better and strictly U.S. based.
GoHastings might be the best source for used if they have it in stock.

As far as trying to ban sellers: eBay already knows. What's more important is that now you know.

What are the odds? I start a forum topic about it, and next thing you know, it's gone? Could eBay be covering their tracks? Anyway, I went into my history to find him, so here's the link:

One set is gone, but other sets remain, and they are just as collectible and expensive, yet he has them for a less than half price.

Yeah, when I saw the location, I knew there was something wrong with the post, which is what led me to dig deeper. If it was in the U.S., I probably would have just assumed a business was selling off extra stock cheap, like Fox did with the Alien Anthology Egg Collection a few weeks ago. But I will never trust the Chinese. Their business tactics are disgusting and immoral, just like most things in their nation.

Pretty much... bootleg or not, there's enough people who don't care and will buy bootlegs and eBay makes money from those fees.

And eBay's idea of banning is a joke. They basically close the account but that person can just make another account within minutes.
