Okay, played through the tutorial of Nightfall. Obviously, I'm not experienced enough to do a full review, but here are the basics:
it's set in 'endless night', so basically some sort of vampire/monster setting. Each card has a color, and 1 or 2 secondary colors. On your turn, you chain your cards together -- if the first card has green as one of it's secondary colors, you can chain a green card to it, and then chain to that. Once your done chaining, all opponents can chain to you. Resolve, and then the next player goes. When it comes around to you again, any minions of yours attack enemies. There are actions and minions, like spells and basic attackers. If your minions are dead and you take damage, you get wound cards. Wound cards fill up your discard pile, so can eventually overtake your hand. Game is over when the set number of wound cards are used, winner = least. I like that you can play card into enemy chains and vice versa. I like the 'influence' system to buy new cards too (mostly from a shared deck, though each player has a small well of private cards). My biggest complaint so far is that the cards are just small enough on my ipad that i find it a bit straining to study potential chains. I don't mind zooming to study effects while i'm new to the game (i used to have to do that in ascension, now i don't) but i feel like i'm -always- going to be straining my eyes to create chains since even two identical action cards can have different chain colors. I also found it odd that while buying new cards, i couldn't find a way to see my existing cards in my hand; if you can, it's certainly not apparent. This is a problem, since it makes it harder to buy cards that properly chain. I'm.... mixed on this. It seems like a solid game, except I'm really not sure I'd ever play this over Ascension. I'll try out Summoner Wars soon. |

can someone explain this to me?
i've already got Nightfall on my ipad. I don't remember buying it, and according to appshopper it's never been on sale before that i can tell. Was it free with an iap unlock? And if so... how the heck do i unlock it? Also - 'play online' is greyed out and unselectable. I can find no option to sign in to anything or otherwise unlock it. And no way to buy anything, such as an iap unlock. Very confused. |

i don't have gamecenter set up... it appears there's no way to do this in game that i can tell. no login screens, nothing. totally at a loss. EDIT - oh, it looks like there is a game center app and that i need to sign in manually from there. haven't played anything online with the ipad, ever, so this is new to me. Nightfall confuses me. I can't really get a handle on the long game yet so I have no idea how to draft a winning combination. The mechanics seem simple but I don't see how I need to bring strategies together.

i would say 'wait' for sure... when your ascension needs a jolt in the future then buy the promo pack. |
