More often these days they are requiring that you put all of the trade in value toward the item to get the bonus.

In my case the difference between the 50% and 30% is about 5$ so if they won't let me buy a crap game and get the full 50% then ill just go for the 30%.

It's wrong. There's a $30 guarantee in place for the home consoles. I don't think anyone's posted the underlying base that would be used to calculate the 10% PUR bonus, but it's definitely not over $30. Vita is at $15.
