Monster Rancher is far more Digimon-like than Pokemon-like. The main character is transported to another world and has to beat the main bad guy to get back. However, the monsters in this series are more in dependant and don't change forms to get stronger.

Understandable. The story starts up a lot slower than either Digimon or Pokemon, the actual battles aren't as good, and there aren't a lot of flashy attacks. It's kind of like Zoids: Chaotic Century in a way.

Anyway, the show ran for 3 seasons, but Season 2 was only shown a handful of times in the US and Season 3 was never shown at all.
