I'd suggest checking out Sleeping Dogs when it hits a price point you fancy ($13.60 two weeks back did it for me). It's a refreshing GTA-style game set in Hong Kong with some Batman AA/AC style melee combat. The visual styling in the game is quite HK-cinema-esque, and walk the line between violent gang member and undercover cop. |

So apparently you can try out Big Picture on your PC. It does its job of making Steam easily accessible for people who are actually going to use Steam on their TVs, but for PC users it's a bit pointless. Restart your client for the update, then click the Big Picture icon in the top right to try it out. Not for me, but if you're into that sort of thing or you want to see what it is, hands-on.

I've had Big Picture mode for a while now and I love it. I like Valve getting in on this new trend of PC gaming on your TV.

I may end up using big picture mode once I get a mini hdmi to hdmi cord because, and I know this may seem odd, I would like the audio to go through the TV I would be using. And it would be really nice since I have set up my wireless PS3 controller on my PC. I could finally sit back on my couch and play Saints Row 3 and Dark Souls rather than the current using a wireless controller while still sitting at my computer desk.

Steam Big Picture mode is pretty awesome actually. Currently my HTPC is running XBMC on Linux, but have been thinking of changing over to Windows so that I can use XBMC and Steam Big Picture, as there are several scripts and launchers to make them both work together.

I tried the beta of Big Picture a few months ago on my monitor and it was pretty nice. When I moved an old PC to my living room and hooked it up to the TV, I figured I would be sorted.... alas, Big Picture is not compatible with XP.... hum

I remember there was a rumor or maybe it was just speculation that one of the hardware things Valve was working on was a device that would stream video from your computer to your TV. Any news on that?
Valve seems super committed to TV PC gaming so personally I think there is a good chance Valve could be working on a solution for gamers who don't have their PC near their TV or bring over their laptop. |

Big Picture has been a Steam beta feature for a few months now. It's got a Windows Media Center feel to it, and I don't use either on my laptop. I imagine it's nice for TVs and higher resolution monitors like the ones mentioned a few pages back, Kaltic's mom, and Sarah Jessica Parker's teeth. |

What a bourgeoisie focused feature! I don't have a TV, let alone a "living room"*. Aren't TVs kinda 20th century anyhow? It's all about computers and the internet now. * Does this term imply there are "unliving rooms", i.e. "zombie rooms"? |

I used big picture mode a few months ago and liked it. I had just had surgery and wasn't able to sit at in my chair yet. This made it so I could still play some games on my PC. Granted I should of used this time to play my PS3 since I haven't played a game on it in like a year.

This sale runs until December 10th. The Winter Sale starts on December 20th.
If Valve doesn't have some sort of major sale from the 10th to the 20th, then I will be forced to consider December a major disappointment for them. |

Do people currently install Steam on their tv? Xbox? tablet? dvd player? Where else would I try using Big Picture? And regardless of whether or not my video signal goes to a monitor or tv, it is still a PC that generates it. Obviously Big Picture is not meant for desktop gamers . . . I didn't realize it was advertised as such, nor do I think anyone in this thread would mistakenly make that assumption. The awesome thing about Big Picture mode, when it comes time for me to build a new gaming rig, I can toss my old one out in the living room and use it to play platformers and console type games out there, and more traditional PC games at the desktop. |
