Amazon just charged me for the LE even though the release date is listed as 2/12...weird.

No store should be selling things at internet scalper prices. Especially small, niche stores that rely on a loyal customer base. It's just nasty.

I've seen stores that will price something like this at internet prices, but still sell it at a normal price to an interested customer that has shown loyalty to the shop.

For one, that's extremely YMMV and anecdotal. For two, that is not a good way to get any new customers. I don't think that example helps anything at all--not even a little bit. lol

I got my LE and regular copies a couple of days ago from my local comic shop and Amazon, respectively. My LE I picked up was in perfect condition; Amazon's regular edition, however, came with a dent on the corner, so I dropped it off at UPS for an exchange, which I just received today... and it's packaged the same way and another ugly dent in the corner. Gonna keep trying...

The nearest comic store I frequented literally turned into a warehouse for reseller items.

So, would it be morally wrong to give the stores price gauging the CE book bad reviews? I mean, I shop there and frequent them when they have events. Owner is nice at one and a **** at the other store. Both over the phone said, "Sorry, prices gone up because of quantity and eBay and blah, blah, blah...".

No other stores aroun my area has a copy, just standard edition.

do these small shops even get their inventory for official suppliers/distributors?

if they got the LE online from Amazon etc, I guess it's "okay" to charge whatever they want.

However if they preordered directly from Dark Horse which I believe had to be a special order, they definitely should be put on notice. There has to be some laws for pricing stuff.

Also do these stores have a sign or something denoting the price or people just asked and were told "ebay price"? I would take pictures and tweet them out to Nintendo and Dark Horse. Perhaps mention what store as well for good measure

Local comic book shops are getting these from Diamond, a company that basically owns the comic book distribution industry. From what I was told by my local shop, the LEs were "allocated," which means certain bigger shops get preferential treatment while others were short-shipped or didn't receive any that they ordered.

I guess I just don't see the big deal. Specialty shops sell stuff over MSRP all the time. It's pretty common practice.

It is a big deal for me because I tried to pre-order the CE, and they said that they weren't getting any. When I went on Wednesday they 3 copies, but were asking $299.

Now *that* is ****ty customer service and something to be upset over (assuming that you tried to pre-order before the December Third deadline).... Yuck. But that's a lot different than just walking into a store and seeing something priced above MSRP.

Wouldn't be upset about seeing a local store selling an item according to market value. What's to stop a purchaser from buying the item at normal price and then reselling it at the market value? I can certainly understood the reasoning, although stores that sell a limited item to regular customers at normal price builds goodwill for future purchases.

That is downright terrible. Makes you wonder if these guys actually think before running a business like this. I wonder what would be more profitable...? Selling a handful of books marked up offensively high, or winning over a customer for a life time.

But hey, I guess they don't want your money.

Are these orders from Amazon USA? My current status shows not yet shipped and no charges

I am confused. I have been refreshing the amazon US page for the limited edition a couple times a day for the last few months. I also signed up last summer to be notified through email when the LE was available and have gotten no notice.

When did amazon ever start doing pre orders for the limited edition??

I'm sorry but if I owned a local comic book store and I had the option of turning a good profit for an item or having some of these CAG baboons as loyal customers (i.e. buy one or two items a year when they go on clearance and net me a loss) I'd take the profit.

However to clarify I would never sell the CE for that much in-store as it is tacky. I would pull it, put it in the back, tell customers we never received any inventory and then sell it on eBay.
