seems like a pretty standard feature to be excluded.
With Blu-Ray, the last played position is not a standard for the player. That functionality has to be programmed into the menu of the Blu-Ray discs themselves. So if the Blu-Ray disc you are playing doesn't take advantage of that feature, you won't be able to start over from your last played position.

Some Blu-Ray producers make sure to code their discs for this, and some never bother. It's very hit-and-miss. This is a consequence of the standards for Blu-Rays allowing for a greater degree of programming freedom for the producers. The much more limited nature of DVD production standards made it possible for every DVD player to retain the current played position and settings. With Blu-Ray its more of a case-by-case basis, and some Blu-Ray producers just don't care as much about the quality of their products.

wait so does the blu ray player have to have it or the blu ray disc? im guessing you mean player but i got confused by your statement. you say its not a standard for blu ray players but then it has to be built into the disc???

well such a shame i am all for more freedom in producing stuff but it really seems like such a basic standard feature to be omitted. i honestly never thought of checking on that oh well all i wanted a cheap region free blu ray player and thats what i got...well ill know for certain when my two region free blu rays arrive in the next week or so. i thought one would be here today....but the menu popped up just fine so looking good.

i will say this the upscaling and quality of blu rays seems to be quite a bit better than the ps3 could do.

He said it entirely depends on the disc, and some random anime Blu-ray isn't exactly going to be feature-packed.

So I totally found two brand new copies of Gundam 00 Season 2 yesterday. I got one for myself but now I'm seeing a TIV of over $100 on Amazon for a copy... something tells me I should go back and get the other one.

Lucky. Wish Bandai would make more before the Nov. 30th Deadline.

well this is why i asked because any disc ive ever tossed at the ps3 will save its place and that was the first time i had heard it depends on the disc

With DVDs, this feature was universal. No matter what DVD you throw in a player like the PS3, it will just automatically resume wherever it left off.

With Blu-Rays, this is not the case. If you try to resume a Blu-Ray, it will either throw up a prompt, and ask you if you would like to resume from your previous position, or it will just automatically kick you straight to the opening menu.

If you are watching, you will notice that the prompt they throw up is always specific to the disc in question. It will usually have disc-specific artwork or fonts. This is because the disc producers are given control over what happens when you try to resume a disc. The lazier producers will just kick you to the menu, while the more detail-oriented producers will give you the option of resuming playback from the previous position. With DVDs, the producers didn't have this option. With that format all discs would just resume automatically.

well the insignia wont even resume dvds so does the player then have something to do with it also?

and ive never seen that prompt for blu ray discs odd. i will now have to look for that cause now i am curious

CAG's, Eureka Complete collection 2 is back in stock at Amazon, albeit at a steep price of about $44.

I jumped on it.

My copy of Outlaw Star shipped from Rightstuf yesterday, and I got my copies of G Gundam boxset 1&2. Once I get more disposable income next month, I'm gonna try and buy the last sets that I want (while trying to save as much as I can for Black Friday lol)

Thats my plan too cause I am also waiting for Birthday Money to get more Bandai Series (G Gundam, Code Geass, Gundam Wing, Eureka Seven, Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00, and The Big O) before the OOP Wave drowns us all.

So does Bandai replace discs? I'm currently watching the 2nd complete collection of Eureka Seven and I'm getting close to the end. The 3rd disc in the set starts to skip near the end of the DVD and I lost probably two minutes of one episode due to my PS3 automatically going to the next chapter (since it couldn't read it, I had to scan back until it got close to unreadable part again). One of discs from that same set was also scratched up a bit as well. Odd because my 1st complete collection had no issues.

They used to. You could go on their site and fill out a form to get a replacement. Usually ended up with a leftover packin from another series (such as a pencil board or figure) as a freebie. Head over to the help section on Bandai's site and check.
