I still have my decade old analog tv, but I wonder for modern TVs how closed captioning on DVD discs work. I'm not talking about subtitles, but actual closed captioning with the white text on black boxes. I've read that CCs are from an analog signal, and obviously can't be seen through HDMI or Component Cables due to their digital signals. Some old DVDs, like the Supernatural Season 1 and the Kids in the Hall DVDs don't use the "traditional" subtitles, images burned on to the disc, but instead use the old closed captioning method. Is there a way to see the CCs on modern TVs besides switching back to the composite videoes or hooking up a laptop/PC?
