I don't mean towns on the US/Mexico or the US/Canada Border.
No, I'm talking about people who live on the borders of states.

I live on the border of Washington/Oregon, but Portland is the closest big city to me. So all I see on the news is Portland, Oregon news. All political commercials on TV are for Portland, or Oregon races.

This election cycle I can't tell you who the Washington candidates for governor are, or what measures we're voting on. (Have gotten very few mailers even, surprisingly.)

But, I can name all of the candidates for Portland's mayor and city council. I can also tell you what measures Oregonians will be voting on.
It doesn't help matters much that I work in Portland and read the newspaper there.

I figure people who live in Kansas City, KS have the same problem.

I'm not a conservative. But, thanks for the assumption.
(Although having a few kids, driving a car, eating meat, and shopping at Target does make me eligible for crimes against humanity in Portland/Multomoah County)

You can go online and research everything you would want to know about your local elections.

Yeah, local TV news is worthless for keeping up with local elections anyway.

I just go online and read up on candidates for school boards, city council and that type of stuff. I guess they may have debates etc. on local TV near election, but I don't care enough to watch those. Easier to just read platforms etc. online.

It depends on your definition of local. There's been plenty of coverage for the Portland candidates, and I've seen numerous ads on the Oregon measures (real estate tax, casino measures, etc).

I try and read the local (Clark County/WA) paper at work sometimes, but their interface is so shitty, and they use facebook for comments so it usually crashes the crappy version of IE we're allowed to use.

I do try and read the voter pamphlet when they mail it to me, but that's not easy reading either.

Not worth moving over. If I was younger or sans kids I'd take advantage of the food/culture Portland has. But for now, the suburbs suit us just fine.

I was just musing out loud about how difficult it is for people in a medium market to get political information when right next to a larger market, especially one that's in a different state than yours.

There are more options than just liberal and conservative. There's a whole political spectrum. You don't have to be one or the other. I could care less what you have me labeled as on your CAG rolodex.

Yep. Really tired of hearing about the Missouri side of things. Especially Todd Akin. God that's played every commercial break it seems like.

I live in Atlanta and just hate the local ajc.com newspaper and website. I go with the bigger sites, hate local news.
