He's only "creative consultant" plus if that title were to be used we'd be saying "No, he ruined more then that."
I know he's only "creative consultant" but I'm sure he'll have a pretty big hand in what happens considering it's his baby. I was mostly making a joke. I figured people would get it.

Another thing, I'm glad I didn't ever bother buying the first six on Blu Ray yet...

If he is now, he won't be for long.

“I’m moving away from the company,” he said. “I’m moving away from all businesses, I’m finishing all of my obligations and I’m going to retire to my garage with my saw and hammer and build hobby movies.”

-------

“Why would I make any more [Star Wars films], when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?” he told the New York Times in January.

To be fair, I wanted the thread title to be "Disney buys Lucasfilms! GEORGE LUCAS AND HOWARD THE DUCK REUNITED! HOWARD THE DUCK 2!"

I'll always take more Star Wars. As other's noted, the Marvel movies have mostly been very good and not made kid friendly or anything, so no reason to expect any different from Star Wars.

I like it! The prudes on this board would have bitched though. Good plan not putting that up as title.

They have the lofty high jump of the original trilogy and the meager limbo bar of the prequel trilogy. Safe bet is this is going to fly right between those two points.

For the acquisition I remain indifferent for the time being. Lucas has been mediocre in his franchise revivals and filmwise Disney wouldn't have much to talk about if Marvel wasn't doing gangbusters under them.

The press release of the acquistion says otherwise.

"Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future."

I'm sure they'll go all out on the 3 films so I'm not really all that concerned. They're probably hoping to cover the whole cost of the acquisition with the three movies + merchandising.

I don't doubt they'll ask him for approval on the direction they want to take the story, but I'm inclined to take his wording from late May that his influence will be fairly minimal. It really sounds to me like he's done with that level of intense involvement.

It doesn't matter in a way, because if it all goes to shit we're still going to blame him if he's anywhere near the credits anyways.

100% agreed.

He does deserve it for Indy vs. The Aliens IMO.

wow....... so will this go in the way of the Zahn trilogy [aka the Thrawn Trilogy]... I can see Mark Hamill doing a cameo to send off the new trilogy...........but they really need to put Kyle Katarn into the new trilogy.......... no doubt we will at least have r2 and 3po in the new series. I am betting you Harrison Ford has too much of a big ego to come back to play Solo.......anyone can play Chewie.............. and Carrie Fisher........well..............I dunno.....

Not sure how I feel. Also imagine Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts? Darth Vader tells Sora that he's the father and wants him to join the heartless and reign with the darkside.

How long can Disney carry the Star Wars torch?

I am thinking a LOT of people are going to loose their jobs and there is going to be a lot of restructuring of all Lucas properties.....which could mean a closure of LucasArts, a scale back of ILM (which btw, doesn't seem to be the leader any more in FX of movies]
In any case the bottom line is a lot of people are going to loose their jobs in this transaction.

Not just layoffs (like what happened @ Marvel) But drastic expenditure slashing. It's what is ultimately monumentally stupid about buying a profitable company.

I wont jump for joy just because we might get another Star Wars. Thats all it'll ever be , ...another one

Would love to see the Timothy Zahn books as episodes 7-9 but I doubt that happens.
