At that time a customer walks over asks where mini-fridges are. Gaming rep gives him a general idea, a few minutes later the guy walks back and the gaming rep asks if he found them ok. The guy says "yeah but I am just gonna buy online, I just wanted to see what was out there" and the rep told them how BB matches online prices and the guy just kept walking.

Those are the types of customers who Best Buy dislikes, regardless of the policy BB has those customers will never shop smart.

This issue at hand is that upsetting an average customer who is not trying to abuse anything and happened to have one bad issue and will never shop there again because of it. Best Buy wants to weed out the negative customers, I will not fault them for this, I support them more than any other retailer and maybe tied with amazon. But this will affect the "good" customers far more than the "bad" ones IMO.
And honestly, those type of situations won't stop until the law catches up to Amazon and the like to force them to collect the tax at point of sale and not leave it up to the person.

Not to derail the discussion, but in reading the new policy, has anyone been able to make heads/tails of the "transition period" for Silvers until April 18.

Based on what I was told by a few Best Buy employees, don't take this as fact mind you, that if you are silver and buy something on April 17th you still have 60 day return and 60 day price match window.

Silver members 15 day period doesn't start until April 18th. If you're not Silver, it starts March 3rd.

Yup.

The after that you will only have the 15 day price match window but I assume the full 60 to return / exchange.

Well, if I'm reading that correctly, after April 18 Silver members will have the same 15 day price match policy as regular members. But it seems like until then we will have the old policy? Or maybe just 60 days to PM Best Buy only? I thought I understood at first, but as I'm typing it out I guess I don't, lol.

So essentially

- Before 4/18: BOTH 60 day return AND pm (including post purchase) to any retailer
- 4/18 and After: 60 day return. 15 day PM to BB only.

Correct?

I thought silver members had a 30 day pm window under the new policy, doubling what a regular customer would get, and a 30 day return window, also doubled. I dunno.

Based on what little info we have gathered yes, but it is not 100%

That's how I am interpreting it also, but my question is can we still PM other retailers post purchase up until 4/18?

i almost sat the rest of the spring out after getting disheartened about this change.
that and deadspace 3, mgr and crysis 3 are looking at me from the shrinkwrap saying, 'really?'

Article claims it stays at 60 days for Silver members when it comes to return or exchange.

I don't get why this would change anyone's behavior. $20 credit on launch day is still going to the best deal out there. If you're butthurt about the loss of post-sale price match, were you even playing the game up front to begin with?

You missed the point. 1000 RZ and post-purchase PM is what drove a majority of CAGs to join unlocked in the first place. Getting a game on day one for essentially $40, playing it, and then still being able to PM for 30 days was the shit. Take Assassin's Creed III for example. 1000 RZ points and then a PM to Amazon allowed a lot of CAGs to own (and play) that game on day one for only $20. Same thing with Halo 4.

Just preordered God of War collector edition. GS is sold out. I renewed my unlocked as well. I hope they don't fully switch to digital magazine. No one at the store could tell me anything.

Like what nuuuj says, I used to exert my infinite patience to wait for games to drop below $10 in GF sales. Since GCU I was able to use PMs to play new games for $20, and considering a timely trade in or eBay dump, it is even sweeter. Now I'm just going back to my old ways. $40 + tax is still a lot of money, for 4-6 hours of entertainment. I agree it is still the best deal if you must play day 1 though.

I am pissed I didnt partake in the program last year. I would have loved to have Ass Creed 3 Day 1. Instead I am still waiting for it to be $20 straight up. Oh well. Live and learn.

If Silver has until April 18th before the policy changes I just may have to go preorder Tomb Raider this weekend.

Dont worry, they already announced Ass Creed 4, so 3 will drop soon enough. Plus as always... its a ubisoft title.

No really... they did. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertco...4s-black-flag/

$40 for day 1 is lil too rich for my blood, especially if it might just sit in backlog.
$20 for day 1 is a no brainer for me, especially if i knock it out and trade it in for more than i paid. that's crazy awesome. before i would wait til it was $20 new or used, but this way i get all the preorder goodies, the day 1 hotness, new game/online pass/limited goodies, etc plus higher tiv if i end up knocking it out. plus if it sits in backlog i won't feel too bad even if it drops to 20 msrp cuz thats what i paid for it and whatnot. but yeah, still a good deal, but i think you are doing it wrong if you only think this deal is only 20 off. for that matter go to amazon or new egg, but whatev. plus bestbuy cred burns holes in some of our pockets.

AC3 was a strange one for me last year. i preordered it, never picked it up, then got it black friday bestbuy for 30 or something. turns out they still considered it a preorder pickup and i got 1000 points. so $10 ac3, sat on it for 3 months, thought i was gonna get an ac3 500 gig ps3 bundle, traded it in at bestbuy for 33.60. still never opened it. doh. it's ubisoft, so cheap soon enough, plus i gotta do ac1,2,b,r,lol. cool story bro.

Don't forget Assassin's CreedŽ III Liberation.

That simply isn't a model that any retailer can afford to pursue long-term. Best case scenario, Best Buy has a 20% margin on new release top tier games. They're giving you a $20 credit toward another purchase which, while not identical to cash, does have significant value and cost to BB depending on what you buy. To then turn around a month or two later and give you back a $20 refund based on some promo deal another retailer got from the publisher and which wasn't offered to BB is literally just taking not only the profit away completely, but also costing BB significant money. I'm sure many CAGs then traded in the game to either BB or another retailer and essentially made money on the deal. I get that you want the best of all worlds, but BB can't afford to give you $60 day one games for essentially $20 or less. I'm happy with the $20 cert and the day one price match.
