In War of the Roses, I don't get that sense of spacing and speed that I get from playing Chivalry. Maybe it's the camera, maybe it's me, or maybe it's the different engine, but I prefer the Chivalry melee system much much more than what's offered in War of the Roses.

Besides, WotR is more like CoD than anything else because of the class customization. Chivalry, all there really is to it is mastering weapons. The unlocks are more of a side thing to further hone in your weapon and playstyle.

I honestly don't care which game requires more skill, but when you end up fighting system mechanics, a fun time isn't exactly guaranteed.
Right, the attack type system takes a little getting used to, but I got accustomed to it and hardly ever make a wrong attack anymore, and I'm by no means very good at the game (and I'm using one of the hardest weapons in the game to use). I can't count how many games I've "fought" control mechanics when I first started playing... and then got used to them and had no problem. WotR was no different there.

Customization in a game =/= the game being like CoD though. Like I said, Chivalry is fast paced and not very realistic. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that's why I'm equating it to CoD. CoD is past paced and not very realistic. WotR is slower paced and very realistic. Customization, in my opinion, is always a good thing, and is the only reason I still bother with CoD games. Besides deep customization, though, WotR is the polar opposite of CoD. Customization is an added feature, not a determining factor of feel, genre, whatever.

Ah i figured out why I dislike the system in WotR. It reminds me of motion controls for the wii. It essentially is a motion control. Mouse look + LMB is similar to swinging a wiimote and pressing A. Honestly, this is the first time I have ever seen mouse look+lmb as a keybind. Almost always mouse look is independent and reserved for panning the camera.

But yeah, everyone tryout the game for yourself. Make your own opinions on the game.

You do realize you can change the attack scheme to be controlled by the keyboard instead of the mouse, right? Pretty sure you just tick a box in the options and it changes.

So, war of the roses is more or less like Mount and Blade? I love that game. The battle is hard and you need to get used to it, but once you do, is great. I will try War of the Roses this weekend.

I played chivalry during it's free weekend too, and found it very fun... didn't bought it, but was fun

Then I'll have to check it out then.

Yes, this. WotR is more or less the spiritual successor of Mount and Blade... Unfortunately it's multiplayer only.

I'd kill for a single player mode on WotR like M&B Warband had.

I got Dead Space 2 from Amazon last year and it was Origin activated. It's good bundle, no Guns, Boots, n Wheels, but few bundles can strive to that level of excellence.

Mount & Blade is one of those games you can play forever. With all the mods out there and the freedom you have... is really awesome. That one and king's bounty are games I'm afraid to continue playing, because they are time sucking games. Oh, and killing floor too.

It depends on what kind of games you like...

The Cat Lady. No matter what kind of game you like. Play The Cat Lady

King's Bounty certainly is until you get about 75% through the game and it turns into bleh. Well it doesn't really turn into it but you more so realize the game hasn't offered anything new for about the past 5 hours and won't for the next 10-15.
Old 02-28-2013, 09:23 PM   #15854
Agreed with King's Bounty. I enjoy the games but at a certain point you've had your fill and you stop. Got about 90% through The Legend and only about 50% or so through AP. Don't really have much of a desire to buy Warriors of the North since it's the same experience with a few tweaks.

Yeah, I can understand that sentiment. Then again, I feel that way about most games. The last chunk of King's Bounty: The Legend hasn't been too bad, since I put time into setting up a very strong, renewable army (full demons).

King's Bounty pretty much requires you to experiment with army set ups, lest you get very bored. Still are awesome games though, just experiment!

This was pretty much an instant yes for me.
I don't understand why this is on greenlight.

Me neither.

You have to wonder if some publishers are intentionally putting games on Greenlight to build hype.

Greenlight has no standards to list other than the fee to post so unfortunately we have to deal with junk like that being on there.

When the first two games were released on Steam was when I knew that Steam as a polished, curated storefront had died.

So I got around to looking into the Eat My Dust Racing Bundle that Motoki mentioned earlier today.

Well it's better than I was expecting, it's all recent indie games (in the last year or so).

Little Racers STREET seems to be well liked, it's also a $1 title on XBLIG. It was free on Desura for three weeks in December apparently. One review. Supports a controller.

Monster minis seems to be well liked, which surprises me as I was guessing it was the weakest game in the bundle from the videos. Review, review. Supports a controller.

Headlong looks interesting. It is the work of one man. It has a wide variety of cars, including semis. I can't find reviews on it, 6.6 on 10 reviews on Desura. I'm not sure if it supports a controller (I'd guess not.) It's also on the Mac App Store.
