So this totally sucks. I was playing Black Ops 2 last night and the game stopped at the lobby loading screen when it is black with lil numbers in the top right and i could hear my clan talking but screen wasnt doing anything. Then the lil blue light just kept blinking and blinking and i tried to turn off or reset ps3 but it didnt do anything, so i ejected the disk and it turned off.
Then I turned ps3 back on, ran a bad turn off corruption check thing and now it won't recognize any disc when i put it in. It will still eject and take the disk, but it spins for just a moment and then stops and the ps3 doesn't react as tho anything happened. im still able to play psn games so I guess I will do that for awhile, plus i still have my older 60gig ps3 somewhere, but damn that totally sucks.

I have the same exact issue, but it happened back during the release of Darksiders 2. I've been purchasing games through the Playstation Store for now, but I will send it in for repairs soon. It sucks, but I've gotten so many years of play out of mine, I knew it would need a repair eventually.

yeah i know. it could be worse and we couldnt even turn on our ps3s or i could be out all my gameshares etc. im like look at the bright side iv got 250etc psn games i need to play, plus i will delete my installed game data/etc so i can download more ps+ igc games. but i would rather have optionally chosen that then my drive just going dead.
worst part is that my girl and i have about 10 duplicate games that won't be played for a few months/year. but thats life.

yeah my daughter was shocked that the newer ps3 (2 years old) had a problem before my old 4 year old 60gigger. but whatev. thats life. i played it like 4+ hours a day, so it did its work. Worst part is that it seemed like a software freeze issue cuz everything was working fun but i already 'rebuild database' and 'restore file system' and no luck. so oh wells.

Buy a laser off ebay and change it. That's what I did when it died on my 60gb PS3.

Youtube will walk you through it.

Did you try a DVD? A CD?

I've seen a similar issue, where the PS3 wouldn't read any blu-ray disc game or movie, but DVD/CDs worked. It was after installing 3 games (in a row) to the HDD, from blu-ray. Inserting a blu-ray, it would try to read, spin a bit, then make a sound like it ejected but disc stays in. Ejecting still works normal by pressing button.

Opening (voiding warranty) and cleaning blu-ray lens with rubbing alcohol + cotton swab fixed it. Lots of youtube videos about how to do it, but not the same for different PS3 models.
