Shipping is free even without Shoprunner so just an FYI for those thinking about this that don't have Shoprunner.

So NV can be activated on Steam, does that mean I can toss the discs and just apply the CD key to my steam account and download the game from Steam as needed?

Don't worry, it's steam activated in case you freeze up and can't bring yourself to insert the discs.

Yes, you can also just enter the disc and have it install the game off the disc so it would take like 20 min instead of downloading the whole game.
