This game is great. The humor is perfect.

Yea, so far, so good. Enjoying the old school RPG atmosphere and like thefurraypanda stated above, the humor is a nice touch. I enjoyed the (very early spoiler) lantern quest, where once completed, the old man had 30 of the damn things in the back .

I'll be doing a livestream of Dragon Fantasy Book I at 2 PM EST, which is 80 minutes from now.

Despite being an homage to the NES-era RPGs, it would've been nice to see them turn down the random battle frequency a bit more along with curbing the frequent misses. I know they're curbing the misses in an upcoming patch.

Here's the archive of the livestream I did earlier, but I'm hopping back in for more now if you want to check it out:

I don't have a Vita, and I've heard there have been issues with the PS3 playing this. Wondering if I should wait until the problems are fixed?

The patch has already been submitted to Sony for testing, so it'll be out soon.

Finished up the first two chapters. The first was much longer at maybe around six hours or six with the second being maybe two hours long at best. The second chapter takes place during the first as you control the remaining brother/prince and it ends about halfway through the campaign in the first chapter, though I was hoping it kept going to show what he does later on after that. The biggest difference in gameplay is that you get a party of people to work with to make it easier than Ogden's solo adventure.

I just finished up the third/last chapter of the game and now I'm looking forward to Book II later this year. They do a good job of mixing it up with the third chapter since you're controlling a thief that has to complete a few jobs for the thieves guild to earn enough money to get passports so he and his niece can move. In towns, you can pickpocket people for some extra cash along with having a steal move in battle to get herbs and antidotes since you'll need plenty of them without a reliable healing spell to replenish health. His niece is your one party member and she has some awesome moves that let her do Hit All attacks that never miss, so you can just steal with Jerald and do damage with his niece without running into much trouble.

I'll move onto the Minecraft chapter next.

So...the 8-bit graphics are completely off-putting, but I hear the story is alright and the characters are funny. Is there a better RPG I can find for the Vita for $7.99 or less, or is this my best option?

Plenty of PS1 Classics if you want to go that route.

I'd prefer PSP and up if possible. I didn't pay $300 for my Vita only to play 8-bit games

The game looks fine on the Vita. My personal preference is on the quality of the experience. If visual justification is your biggest concern, I wouldn't even step down to PSP level (not judging, just stating it).

If you don't like NES visuals or the gameplay style that RPGs of that era had, then this probably isn't for you. For me, the look pops nicely on the OLED screen.

Finished the Minecraft bonus chapter at about two hours and it was pretty good. You get to take control of the Woodsman, who has the ability to recruit monsters into his party. Once you get an axe, you can mine certain areas to get resources to make armor, weapons, and items at a crafting table, which was a neat way to integrate Minecraft elements into the game.

I am almost done with the last chapter and I have probably put in a good 10 hours at least. I may have taken longer than most in the first chapter, because I enjoyed grinding the hell out of Ogden for some reason.

Just finished Chapter 1 today, and really liked it. I agree with Frisky about the random battle frequency being a little high, along with the rate of misses in combat. It's been pretty fun, and I'm looking forward to playing with an actual party.
