I guess 3 minutes it too much to ask. Well, the Dr. grills Obama on the debt among other things while the president stares at the floor in shame. The MSM only wants to know what his favorite color is so it's nice to see this.
I just wonder, if he's confident in his principles - why does he drop his head? Terrible leader. Last edited by cfootball1; 02-09-2013 at 03:11 AM.. |

Talk about a media blackout. It's routine at this point.

He was using his top secret communications device to ask the Illuminati permission to expand Presidential Authority! to use drones or other more covert methods to take the good doctor out...to lunch. edit: It'd be one thing if you wanted to talk about the actual content and message of the video, but all your posts point to your schadenfreude at Obama's body language instead. And you wonder why some people don't take you seriously here? |

You know when you go to the movies, and you get a drink to share with...whoever you are there with, and they drink about 95% of it, and you finish the last sip, and then they get all indignant about WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DRINK THE WHOLE THING, HUH? HUH?
That's what Republicans whining about the debt is like.

Alright, let's watch this video if noone else will.
He starts off with some bad history. Rome had many serious military challengers throughout its entire life. Apocalyptic "moral decay" is pop history, and we owe God damn Edward Gibbon a kick in the ass for that one. The Empire lasted 360 years after the reign of Gaius "They Literally Made a Porno About Me" Caesar, for 's sake. It wasn't queers and deficit spending that killed Rome (which isn't to say that their economy wasn't ed up, but hey, that's what happens when you rely so heavily on plunder and tribute from subjugated nations), but constant in-fighting (political and military), environmental degradation, invasion, and uncontrollable disease. If your Dr. Carson wants to talk about the dangers of aquifer depletion or evolving bacterial resistance to antibiotics, I'm all in' ears. But those particular lessons aren't the ones bouncing around the echo chamber these days."I heart Jesus!" Clapclapclapclap ha-god-damn-ha. Okay, the debt part. Awesome. Carson's "parable" is a paraphrase of some dumb image that's been floating around Facebook for over a year now. Or maybe he's the source of it. It's bullshit either way. A government is not a household and his parable is awful. The government controls and can print its own currency; a family can not. A government can - when it's actually functioning - raise and lower taxes as needs be; a family can not change its own salary. Goverment spending is skewed heavily towards investment spending; a household's spending is skewed more towards consumption. It is disingenuous as a mother to talk about a child's allowance like it's the equivalent to medicare. "Oh, just cut spending!" doesn't sound so appealing when, instead of dropping your Netflix subscription and cutting back on the Starbucks, you're weighing Grandma's heart pills against the gas you need to get to your job.And perhaps the most important part? No family can go to a bank and get interest rates below inflation levels. The money America is borrowing effectively has negative interest rates on it. Y'all are being paid to take money! And y'know why? Because as far as everyone's concerned, America is safe. It's the safest God damn bet in the world. Now he's going on about some super heretical shit that would make the nun that taught me when I was a kid angrier than every curse and blasphemy I've uttered so far. Shove your Prosperity Gospel into the eye of a needle, doctor. In conclusion, ignore me because I sound angry.

I'd say more of a 50/50 split between Democrat and Republican responsibility for the debt. At least the Republicans vote no every once in a while on a spending matter. So, can we Libertarians be indignant about the government's spending? |

I just had to come back to this thread because holy shit God damn. I'm not a Christian, right? So why is that, more than his childishly simplified historical references, more than his disingenuous and misleading analogy, it's his godawful abuse of the religion he claims to follow that pisses me off?
It takes a powerful set of balls to go from "I love the shit out of Jesus!" to "Man, the core teachings of Jesus!" with only a minute of stupid bullshit in between.

So the Dems didn't support the war? Or help build the housing bubble? Or sponsor the bailouts? Both parties are full of corruption and misuse of the public trust and funds. Give me some more of your special brand of "non-thinking superficial reasoning", like maybe we don't have a spending problem? |

I am a Christian, and see your point. It is truly difficult to adhere to the "love your enemy" and give your shirt to the person who steals your coat while living in our corrupted world. It takes a whole heck of a lot of faith to allow someone to murder you and your family without resistance because God's law is "Thou shall not kill". I'm battling this dichotomy of thought processes in my mind everyday. I'm starting to lean towards removing myself from Caesar's (aka man's world) as much as possible. Arguing about the government's decisions during my short time here, while believing in an infinite and eternal afterlife seems trivial and unproductive....but, man, is it hard to stop. |
