I missed the Amazon Warehouse sale they had a couple of months ago and was wondering if there were any other places that had similar deals?

Also, does anyone know if this sale happens often with anime, or did I miss my only chance?

I've never seen quality anime that cheap before ($3 per vol/box). It was more of a clearance than a normal sale since everything was OOP Bandai. Something like that happening again would mean another company going out of business.

oh glob, i missed a damn good opportunity! a friend of mine got all the seasons of lucky star' LE for $40! man, im pretty depressed now.

ATM, there aren't any major sales. FUNi's current Amazon sale is a joke right now.

Maybe FYE will bring back their 50% Off S.A.V.E. sets soon?

It's been a while since I checked, but I use to see $3 and $5 anime DVD's at Big Lots all the time.

Rightstuf's catalog has lotsof stuff. If you want to push your luck, you can buy a Blind Box item. I purchase a $5 item two years ago and it turned out to be a season of Voltron.

The only anime DVDs I have seen at Big Lots recently have been Cyborg 009 and one volume of Baccano.

RightStuf has a lot of sales, but many of them make the products have similar prices to Amazon, though it works great with manga.

I don't suppose anyone has seen a good price on Gurren Lagan complete anywhere? Right Stuf had it for $35 awhile back but I spaced on it, it's back up to $50.

Should you find an answer to this please let me know I missed it also when they had it for 35$ but since its oop along with everything else I highly doubt we will find it for that price again :(

Aside from the odd eBay/Half.com/Amazon Marketplace listing, your best bet is to hope FUNimation or Section 23 aquires the license.

Is it just me or does it feel like the anime industry is dieing here in north America I watch reviews on the new blu release and they seem to be kinda crappy video quality because it's just a sd upvert. Not to mention seems like it getting harder and harder to find older shows and nothing new of much interest is being produced on DVD or blu here. I was going to buy the claymore blu set tonight but I think il hold out for a lower priced based on some of the screens I have see. Sadly.

Part of it is the original anime companies not giving the US licensors the quality stuff to prevent reverse importation ($50-$60 may seem expensive for us, but the average Blu-ray box set in Japan is MUCH higher). And yea, there are fewer companies nowadays. There are only four major companies nowadays:

FUNimation - The top dog, but their output nowadays consists of a lot of re-releases and license rescues.
Section 23 - Formerly ADV. Only do dubs for some of their releases.
Viz Media - Only does a few series nowadays, mostly Shonen Jump. Focuses on manga.
Nozomi Entertainment - RightStuf's production house. Never make any dubs.

It doesn't help that the only spot for anime on TV anymore is late Saturday night/Sunday morning.

I don't think it matters much since they mostly air re-runs of shit they've aired before over and over again. The issue is everywhere closed up due to declining sales/increase in piracy. Anyone who relies on Cartoon Network for anime is probably fine with the tiny bit of stuff released here anymore, as long as they can buy Bleach they are happy it seems. Hell, people thought Evangelion was a new thing when they aired it a week ago... /facepalm

I'd like to think NIS America and Aniplex of America are still big players. They certainly make high quality items, especially since Aniplex does straight importation of some anime series. Still trying to save my money for the $300 Fate/Zero box sets.

What kills it for me is that they're not releasing blu-rays over here for a lot of things. There are a lot of titles released here only on DVD, because of the reverse importation issue. I don't want the DVDs when I know there's a better version. When we actually get blu-rays, it's often not the same quality as Japan's. I canceled my Lain preorder after finding out that ours was inferior.

At the same time, I'm not going to import Cowboy Bebop blu-rays for $400, or Tari Tari for $300 (though I'm considering it), which even then, aren't subbed. Then people either watch it on Crunchyroll, or pirate, then it becomes a further downward spiral. I plan on starting on importing European blu-rays, cause they don't share the same region with Japan like we do.

NIS America licenses very little. And even then, we don't have a Tora Dora blu-ray set that Japan got in 2011. Or Denpa Onna. Or Persona.

Aniplex... is pretty much just paying Japanese prices. Maybe a little less, since Madoka LEs are still like twice what we pay (even when we have to pay $75 a volume).

Thats the reason i go out of my way to try and purchase anime but its getting hard and harder to find releases that are in good enough quality that's worth purchasing. they prob complain about low sales here in the states but it doesn't help that they release inferior quality when they release anything at all. Then no one wants to buy a inferior copy when they can pirate something higher quality.......

The actual sales numbers have gone down but profits haven't been as impacted as one might think. Part of it is less money being spent on physical discs and packaging since nobody is doing singles any more. Part of it is the licensing costs have come way down. I forget the exact numbers, but in the Section 23 panel last year they mentioned the cost of licensing has dropped anywhere from 60-80% depending on the title. Apparently some of the bigger licenses cost more than $20,000 an episode back in the day.

When the economic downturn hit in 2008 it weakened a lot of companies/industries. I had a feeling when Rightstuf was having all those 25 for $100 liquidation sales for Geneon and ADV that it was a double-edged sword. Companies started folding like shirts after that.
