Does anyone here have comcast's HDTV service? I'm tempted to go rent the box from them just to get my local channels in HD. I just got a new HDTV(HD Read) and I want some HD programming. They only charge 5.00 a month for the box. Anyone?

I do, they don't have all local channels in HD in my area, like CBS.

I have it, has all my local channels in HD and a variety of specialty HD channels.

Is it worth the 5 bucks a month just for the few local channels? Is there a way to find out what local channels are available?

without a doubt, and if they offer the dvr in your area, it is a must have as well. I have had the hd box since august, but I had tivo, and didn't get to watch that many shows in HD...just recently I got the dvr from comcast, which records in HD...one of the few shows that I watch that isn't broadcasted in HD is battlestar galatica on the scifi channel...in the middle of it, I said to my gf, they must have made an error the picture quality is horrible. Her response was " that is the same as it was b4, your just used to the HD now". It is worth the $5 they are going to charge you, and if they have the dvr, GET IT, GET IT NOW

This has the same problem as porn. Porn gets you so hot for impossible women that you loose taste for girls that would actually boink you... If I cant tell my tv is 'horrible' then it wont bother me one bit. Not that I really watch tv, but I dont want the programs I do watch to look crappy to me because I'm used to HD.

HD channels are awesome. Mostly for event TV, like sports, movies, documentaries. For regular programming I could care less. I don't care about seeing the evening news anchor or Scrubs in HD. For $5, it's worth it.

I've got a Comcast HDTV box hooked up to my 20 inch monitor. Even on something that small, the quality is amazing. I would not hesitate to get HDTV, and if you've already spent the money on a real HDTV, why wouldn't you pay to actually watch TV in HD? Doesn't make sense to buy the HDTV and then not get HDTV.

yes, its definitely worth it. i picked up a plasma and got the dvr with hd and its eye blowing. i think the picture on hd channels are better than the picture on my progressive scan dvd player. it is well worth the price. from what i have been told, they are currently working on getting more hd channels added, so even more hd goodness. i think i have spent more time watching discovery hd than any other channel, something about under water clarity...its like i was snorkling with sharks again.

My first post and it is not even going to be about videogames. Anyone who has HD from comcast, can the box convert 720p feeds to 1080i? Fox's feed is 720p and the HDTV I just got only accepts 1080i. This is very important considering the Super Bowl is on Fox. I need to know if I should just spring for an OTA HD receiver. Thanks in advance.

Yes, actually, this is one of the drawbacks to the Comcast reciever. It has no option for the native resolution of the broadcast, it converts all HD signals to your selected resolution, so if you pick 1080i, and the broadcast is in 720p, it converts it.

I don't have comcast but the one I do have from Time Warner converts all to 1080i. If you have a choice I would go with the HDTV DVR. MUCH better. The DVR box gives you so many more options on how to display signals to your HDTV. The one I have also has a DVI and HDMI outputs. The standard HDTV box I used to have forces everything into 1080i making your zoom features useless. I would have to hook the box to both component and S-Video so that I can watch my normal 4:3 programming in widezoom. This is something you need to consider.

I have it and love it. Also get the dual tuner HD DVR.

Thanks dafoomie. This will work great for my TV since it only takes 1080i. It sucks for those who don't want the degradation from the convergence though.

Weird, fox no longer advertises broadcasting in 720p and the broadcasts are coming through in 1080i.

Yeah, I have the HD - Dual Tuner DVR from Comcast. It is GREAT. The HD Box is $5 more, the DVR is only $10.

I love the ability to record anything I want....even in HD.

Also, my Comcast gives me all the local HD channels.

HD is GREAT though

Any way to hook that DVR box up to your pc and possibly record shows on DVD?
