Anyone bought a TV recently? I don't know whether to just go to store, find what I like and buy it, or whether I should shop around for deals. Do stores such as Best Buy and Circuit City have sales on their TV's? Anyone know?

Really depends on what type of TV you're looking for. More detail?

I got my symphonic 24" TV for $68 with tax at best buy a couple of weeks ago when they had that 50% off coupon...well worth it..Especially since I think my 27" Sony will be dead soon..But that's a long shot for anything like that again....

if you're looking for a 30 inch widescreen hdtv for a good price, go to kmart. it's $499. its regularly 750 bucks. this week only. the cheapest widescreen hdtv at walmart right now is 650 bucks. its a 30 inch sanyo with a built in digital tuner. not a bad deal either.

I got a 27" tv at Walmart for $250 when I used to work there.

Its an APEX with 3 composite ins 1 out and Svideo in. It's flat screen too. I like it... but my last tv was a 13"

Walmart has some seriously shitty TVs.

For 399$ you can get a 27" Sony WEGA with component and S-video, perfect for gaming.

Wal-Mart sells some crappy televisions, but they also sell Sanyos which are quite reliable. I've talked to a few people who have had them for years. I've had one for five years and it looks perfect.

I got a nice 32" Sanyo from Wal-Mart for $212. That was with my employee discount. It's normally around $260 or so.

I have 2 Sanyo TVs... and while they are reliable, they have really bad picture compared to the 20" sony in my room.

I believe JVC has some good tubes also.

you can SERIOUSLY haggle at circuit city. i just picked up a panasonic 42" HDTV for almost 1/2 off. it was tagged $1799, "one day sale" priced at $1299, and i talked them down to $999 if i bought the 3 yr protection plan, which you almost have to buy on a projection tv. i looked at a lot of tv's from every manufacturer, at every conceivable store, and this one was the best bang for the buck-sure, it's no SED or LCOS or even LCD, but i spent less than $1400 delivered. i'll probably never purchase a tv from anywhere else if all my future tv transactions go as well as this one did.

Is this the one you mentioned? Anyone else have any thoughts on this specific TV?

I know that Advent is a throwaway brand much like Daewoo...

There's a 26" Widescreen HDTV by Samsung for 699 at bestbuy.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....p;type=product

If you need widescreen I highly recommend it, it has one of the cleanest pictures I've ever seen on a television.

I just bought a 51" sony projection for $1450 not including 2 $100 rebates. It was from a local electronics store. They had it for $1699, told them circuit city had it for $1450 (which they did, I wasn't ripping them off) and with no problems they matched it. So I reccomend local places.

We had a lengthy discussion about that particular TV there. The advent is junk, like someone else has stated already. I finally purchased an HDTV this week from BB. They had some great open box deals, so you may want to check there. Got a Phillips 30" widescreen open boxed for a great price.

You may also want to check your local Target. They have the same Philips I got (30"wide) for $699.99. BB has it for $799.99.

If you live in the midwest, American TV is a good place to go (I know they have several stores here in Wisconsin, and I think Illinois as well) I bought my TV there, it's a 27" Toshiba Flatscreen (comparable to the WEGA) and it's great. Otherwise, I'd check out Circuit City, or maybe Best Buy, but I've found that the salespeople there aren't as knowledgeable about stuff.

It looked like you were the only one saying it was junk. You don't even own one. I personally only go by reviews from actual owners.

You are correct. I choose not to own a piece of crap Advent like the one mentioned. If you think I am so wrong about Advent I suggest you search around on your own. Go to AVSForums and see what they have to say about Advent.

I'm pretty sure Sanyo is made by Panasonic. I remember reading that in Consumer Reports awhile back.
