Need a gaming laptop quickly

I need to get a laptop for my business in the next week or so. I plan to use it for gaming too, so it needs enough horsepower to run all current games well(and it should handle future games too).

Not sure what I need as far as specs like RAM, CPU, and video card go, but it needs to have a firewire port and DVD-CDR drive(doesn't need DVD-r). It also needs to have whatever is needed to hook up to a cable modem with a cat-5 cable (networking/ethernet card?).

I'm looking for a really cheap ass deal on a sick setup. Something that is great for gaming, but also has the peripherals that I need for my business. I'm looking to spend $1,200 max. Cheaper would be better, but I'd also go over $1,200 if the bang for the buck was really good.

$1200 isn't much I'm sorry to say. With that, you might get a laptop that will run the newer games (HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry) but you certainly won't get one that will run next gen titles well.

Wow, I wouldn't even expect 1200 to be enough to run anything current. You're looking at 1500-2000 at least I'd think.

Laptops = not meant for gaming.

Didn't Dell have some laptops like what I'm looking for in the $1200 range a while ago? I am mainly a finance/accounting person and I don't know all that much about hardware, or how to tell if a deal is good or not.

Both Dell and Alienware carries gaming laptops, but they are more in the expensive end (both over $2000).

Perhaps the best choice for you is to go to Fry's if you have one near you and get a laptop there. They got some pretty good prices on most of the laptops over there. Some of them (not the HP or the Compaq ones) have a decent video card enough for you to play games out there now (look at Sony Vaios and Fujitisu's). They're probably at around $1500 though.

Unless you shell out the big bucks a laptop's video tends to be very behind the curve in terms of gaming power. It takes a while for state of the art capability to find their way into a compact low power package.

Another route you may wish to consider is to get a good laptop and build a gaming system separately. Some very decent models can now be had for well under $1,000. Ethernet is pretty much built in on any laptop you'll find today and wireless networking in all but the cheapest.

You can build a gaming PC gradually. Start with a good motherboard and the most cost effective CPU. From there you can add a high end video board as the funds become available.

You will not find a gaming laptop with all the features you want for $1200 or less. Forget about the gaming. The cost of a decent video card, CPU, & RAM for gaming places most laptops in the $2000+ range. Plus, a gaming NOTEBOOK (you couldn't use it on your lap, so it shouldn't be referred to as a laptop, they should probably rename them to 6-second portable pants press) is really a desktop replacement machine, so it will weigh about 12 pounds, suck the battery dry in under an hour just idling at the desktop, and require an asbestos placemat be used underneath it so it doesn't burn a hole through whatever surface you place it on. I bought such a behemoth and I regret it. Both financially and medically. OH, THE BACK PAIN!!!

You can easily find a nice 15" widescreen, portable laptop with all the other features you need for about the price you want to pay.

I ordered my computer. It's a Sager 9860. It came out to $2690, but the graphics card is upgradeable and it's over 3 times as fast as the MR 9700.
