Katamari Damacy
For PS2
1-2 players (main game 1 player)
Rated: Everyone
MSRP: $19.99

Katamari Damacy is the snowball effect in action: you roll stuff up. You start out small gathering small stuff (thumbtacks, candy, batteries) and end up getting bigger and bigger as you roll your katamari (ball).
What happened was the King of all Cosmos got a little out of control one night and destroyed all the stars. He has sent you (the Prince) to go to Earth and gather raw materiel that he can make into stars. The game says the Prince is sent all over the world, but the same 3 stages keep showing up. Don’t worry though since the stuff you collect is different (Building, people, animals, plants, etc), has different time limits, and different starting points in every level. The growing part is the most fun. For example a human that was 60 times your size 8 minutes ago can now be rolled into your katamari. There are also levels you do not have to play where you have to collect a certain type.
There are also a couple of these I hate where the first thing you touch in that group type is what you picked. There are just too many of the type, so getting a big one is almost impossible. The music makes me think of a Japanese lounge act and the controls have you use the 2 analog sticks to point what direction to go and other functions revolve around them. It will only take a couple days to finish but you can try to get a better score (no initials entry) or play 2 player vs. with a buddy.

7.5 out of 10

It's Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!! Loved this game the whole way through. The quirky, but fun gameplay. The addictive Japanese music fits the game perfectly. It all seems to fit extremely well, one of the surprises of the year.

I also hate the missions where the first thing you pick up is what you get because they also take things that are close to what you need.

For example: I was doing the one where you had to get the biggest bear and I rolled over a "Beware of Bears" sign and the game counted that as a bear! Give me a break! :x

seriously, its the best way to trade games cuz u get a fair value rather than gamestop where they give u 10% of what they charge for it

i think u should buy the game now, buy the sequel, buy the sequel's sequel, the trilogy, the quadrilogy, etc. etc.

i love this game...its so great. the sequel looks like it will be more dynamic with the race track and the aquarium fish levels.. can't wait.. its gonna be released soon i think.

You do know 5.0 is an average score right? Like I said it is short and some levels are really annoying.

Yeah, I know. Its just most people overate this game but I would probably give it an 8.5. Its not perfect but I think short games are much better than longer ones anyway. Its your opinion though, not mine.

Thanks for being someone who understands that.

It's alright, only cause the premise is so simple. Stating that you roll over and pick stuff up really is the entire game. I don't understand this line, even though I did play the game :

I think I understand it, then I lose it.

This game is deceptively hard... I think its harder than Ninja Gaiden.

This review is bad. There is absolutely no justification as to why the score is what it is. Among other things. . .

Your review is garbage, the game your are reviewing, is not.

This game isn't that hard. Just because you aren't good at videogames doesn't make the game any harder than it really is.

hard yes, but not harder than ninja gaiden !
i enjoyed the game VERY much, and wud love 2 get the sound track..but its so expensive :\..sry OP, but i dont think ur review was very accurate, it did go over some main points which were brought over very well, and a good description was given, but when you said its almost impossible *text?* to get a big katamari, i find that false, i thought it was very easy,...sometimes its all about strategy u kno
i give it a good!
keep it up
