But... John Woo. At least that's better news than Uwe Boll optioning every damn video game in existence.

I wonder if Samus will shoot sideways, John Woo never does that in his films.

what IM wondering is if samus will have guns on both arms, cause we all know woo loves dual gun action. it might not suck, paycheck was pretty good, and metroid already had a shitload of explosions, so he should be satsfied with that. now, to paraphrase hard boiled:

Give a girl a gun arm, she thinks shes a super-powered bounty hunter raised by aliens. give her two she thinks shes god.

I still want Shawn Ryan to do Max Payne. The shield and payne are so close I think it would be awesome

Shawn Ryan is a producer. He created the Shield, which is along the same type of lines as Max Payne(vigilante cop who has own definition of right and wrong). He acquired the film rights a year or so ago and no one has heard anything since.

I wonder how he's going to incorporate the trademark doves/pigeons dispersing in slow-mo in Metroid? There are no doves/pigeons in space.

ohh. yep he would be great for it. as long as he doesnt abuse his new found power of bullet time. it would have a great story, and well developed characters too.

the problem is how do you create a coherent metroid story without dumbing it down for the mainstream audience?

I could see the chozo storyline working well as a movie. NP had a comic YEARS ago that would be a pretty cool movie...

They've been planning a Metroid movie ever since Prime came out and sold a million copies. Glad to see they got a well known action director at least.

Metroid is a very simple story, there's no need to dumb it down. If anything you have to be afraid they'll cram too much useless crap into it like they did streetfighter just because the idiot director thought there was no story.

(honest to god, the director said the streetfighter game had "no story" in an old EGM interview before the movie was released. "you just put your quarter in and the characters are just there.")

If Woo really is doing it all he has to do is play through Zero Mission, Prime and Fusion and he has a triology ripe for the exploiting.

They may not dumb it down, but there is not much dialogue/characters with the abilty to speak in Metroid games, with Fusion the minor exception. I could see the space pirates or the chozo as a possibility, but I'll wait to judge anymore until more than just a director is named comes available.

If they do use the mother brain story line, they should add King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard as her henchmen. Now that would rock.

well according to gamespot and from what I read in the Yahoo article(http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ure_metroid_dc) they seem to be on the right track atleast initially, drawing from the games storyline to build the movie and with a 100million dollar budget they're already inbetter shape than Resident Evil was with it's firts movie.
