PSP at FYE Preorder Discussion Thread

Created a thread just for this... seeing as how much credit we alls got at FYE.

(God bless Room Zoom, Drake, and Freestyle Street Soccer..... )

So the deal is...

$299.99 gets you...
1) PSP System Value Pack (32MB MemStick Duo, Headphonesw/Remote, Battery Pack, AC Adapter, Soft Case, Cleasning Cloth, UMD Sampler Disc)

2) Spider Man 2 (The Film on UMD)

3) "A PSP Game"

ONLY REQUIREMENT
$25.00 Down.

Doesn't say that on the flyer... nor does it say FYE... BUT...

(See the Flyer Scan below)

Precautions?

FYE is riddled with nincompoops.

The preorder deal in the system doesn't seem to be keen on which game comes with the package... I think they either

1) expect you to choose a game when you pick it up on the 24th

or

2) don't know yet from corporate which game they are giving out in the package since it is not yet advertised

so you're best bet is to put and extra $5 down on a particular game that you KNOW do you want in the deal, (like i did for Lumines.)

then when the system and the games in, and they try to force you to take something you dont want in the package, (like if they decide Madden is the game with the bundle) just point out that you'll take your preorder game in the bundle instead, and point out that the flyer never specified which game you were supposed to get.

Cool?

I know its cool for me....

Just got in on this for less than a $50 investment doing trade-ins.

Good Luck!

(FYE employees please chime in with more info if you can. thanks!)

I preordered one from Coconuts/Fye as well and they just mentioned the $250 price- nothing about a bundle. This was a couple weeks back so there was no flyer and the clerk had to look up the preorder SKU.

I'm just wondering if they will be getting any of the first shipment since most of the Chicago area stores rarely get any new stuff right away.

They also gave me the $250 price like a couple weeks ago.
But at every FYE i went to they told me that if i preordered they would garuntee that i would get it & that the only way to get one is to preorder.

man i cant trust fye. i have a little under $400 in credit there and would like to hold my $400 in credit at EB for games in the future. BUT, it took my local FYE store 10 days to get RE4 when it released. I cannot trust FYE to put a PSP in my hands the evening of the 24th (my 21st birthday as well). I dont want to be pissed off at FYE while blowing out the candles on my alcoholic cake. therefore, i am going against temptation and picking my psp up at EB. Damn you FYE, your idiocy is your biggest trait and your biggest flaw.

I know it's a well known fact.

Do you think you will get the psp on the 24th?

Im just scared I would come in and they will say "we didnt get them today. check back tomorrow." Im not trying to be a demanding person by wanting it on release day but I'd like to know I can play it on my day off, since I work the rest of the week.

FYE has a really dumb policy where you have to buy a game with any system... PS2, GCN, anything... If it wasn't for the PSP and their insane payouts, I wouldn't deal with them.

Hey! Don't pile on

Hey guys. I work at an FYE in Toledo Ohio. You shouldn't be so hard on my fellow co-workers. True many of them ARE idiots but it is kinda hard for people to know EVERYTHING about music, movies, games, electronics, accessories, cell phones, etc....

Our business had diversified GREATLY over the past few years. We have only been carrying games for the past 6 years and many of the people who work for Transworld started there when it was called Record Town and we only carried CD's, tapes, and movies. For some of the people who have been there for a long time, it's been hard to keep up with all of the new stuff that we carry. I love games and new electronic gadgets so it's been easy for me to adjust, but for others it's been more of a trial.

Transworld(FYE's parent company) has no formal training for our people. They just ship new products to our stores and expect us to be geniuses about them immediately.

All I'm asking is that you cut us some slack when it comes to all of this videogame stuff. IF you must direct your unhappiness somewhere, direct it at Transworld and they're lack of training protocols. We would all be happier if all of our employees knew about the games. Hell, I would because then I wouldn't have to answer all of the game questions in our store 100% of the time. haha

take it easy guys and have a good day!

I thought the employees at mine were cool, I just don't like the must buy a game with a new system policy. Especially since FYE tends to over price. Hell, I've seen first gen games still going for $50.

Talked to the manager of a Coconuts today and he stated that the game in the bundle was just one of the launch titles, and he'd let the customer decide which one - this was for his store and not official policy though.

Thinking back... when the Xbox/GameCube launched they did the same forced bundle deal (although for the Xbox it was buy 3 games plus an accessory with the system) and let customers choose which games they wanted. I'm guessing they'll let people choose this time as well.

believe me, the fact that they are untrained and know nothing about video games is the only thing that has contributed to the mass amount of store credit I (and SO many others) have accumulated.

it's really not a big deal for me when they don't know anything...
it's never the employee's fault for being an idiot...
it's corporate's fault for hiring idiots. (or hiring reasonably intelligent people then not training them)

i never blame the nincompoop.
just the bigger nincompoops who hired him.

Seriously. I work next door to an FYE, at a game store, and know more than do on these. However, he/you has a point in that they have no training- they didn't even know about he retail sites for Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. Not to plead a pity party, but it is crazy. However, I have loved the ability to go down the way and grab Sneakers and Room Zoom at EB and go to FYE to trade it in. If all retailers will be carrying the 40$ tag on PSP games, I'll grab the system at EB, and the games @FYE.

We'll see.

I didn't know FYE was forcing a bundle on the PSP. I'll probably just buy the system at EB with the store credit and buy all the games at FYE then.

Is that a recent policy? When I bought my DS from them, I didn't have to buy a game (then again there was no way I could have considering they only got the systems in and no games on the launch date).

UPDATE...

They seem to still be taking preorders till this friday....

I just Preordered a second unit so the will physically have a spare one behnd the counter on launch day if the first one i get from them has any dead pixels or obvious flaws...

if all goes well... and the 1st one i get is fine... i'll cancel out my credit deposit for the second unit and get another game....

might not be a bad idea for some other guys out there with millions of dollars in FYE cred who're anal over pixels.

i know i am.
