I've e-mailed IGN numerous times but I figure only people here are likely to answer. My question was regarding the various color schemes that MS had for the controller s and what the hell happened to them. I specifically remember orange, red, and clear white as alternate colors (as noted in xbox nation no less) but now there are only green, blue, and black which I think all blow kinda hard (although I am picking up a clear green xbox). So someone please PLEASE 1) Confirm that they yes, did in fact exist and 2) tell me what the hell happened to them.

they did exist, but probably didnt sell well, so they were most likely discontinued.

they did not exist. they set up a poll and whatever 2 colors got the most votes they would make.

only the blue & green exist, MS only made the 2 winning colors.

I was pissed that the translucent grey one didn't make it, but then again I have no room to talk as I never voted.

I was pretty mad they didn't make an orange controller since the main system colors appear to be black, green, and orange. They even show a picture of the orange controller on the xbox dashboard a lot. I guess they just like to rub it in. There must be some prototypes floating around. Kinda like the old boba fett figure or those rare Voodoo graphics cards.

I'm pretty sure there is no black. It'd be cool if the black was translucent, but I bet it was gonna be just like the first, fat controllers.

Damn and I really wanted a translucent orange one.

The rumor is that MS knew what colors it was going to make the limited edition Xboxes in (green was an obvious choice because of the Halo green Xbox, blue for the Kasumi Japanese Xbox) quite a while ago. The decisions were to make extra colors for the controllers to match the consoles themselves. I am surprised, however, that they didn't make the clear controller to match the clear European version. The reason that there were no matching controllers for the translucent black or the white Panzer Dragoon Xboxes was because these consoles were produced in very small quantities and purchased in very little numbers.

It's really stupid that while Xbox is selling like shit most everywhere else beside the US, we still get barely any exclusives or cool things like how we miss out on PS2 things that are in Japan.

It's actually not stupid. It makes sense from the company point of view. Since you are buying it anyway, we'll just give you the cheapest junk version whereas in other areas, Microsoft needs to create some interesting bundle to entice buyers.

Yeah they make the special edition ones as a gimmick to get more people to buy.
