Just wondering if anyone here likes elctronic music, and if you know where to find a good selection of cds/LP's that's NOT ebay. Right now I'm looking for Geomantick by Prana and people on Ebay want upwards of 30 bucks for it USED. Anyone with some suggestions on where to find some good electronica deals, please, enlighten me.

Okay, Virgin Megastore has some of th best selection of electronic music I've ever seen. The cost may be slighty better than ebay. But in big cities like San Fran, NYC and chicago there has got to little indy stores that specialize in carrying electronic especially for DJ's.

the problem is I live in buttfu*k nowhere and the ONLY music store we have is in our small mall. Believe me, they have nothing. NOTHING unless you like ol' Nickelback and Avril with a side helpin' of Nelly and 50 cent. I'll check out Virgin's website, but if you have anymore, let me know.

Amazon has one for 20 used: link.

In any case, this sounds like it's both rare and an import. I don't think it's going to be cheap no matter where you look.

if you're looking for the cd version of Prana's "Geomantik", that shouldn't be too hard to find. might be a bit expensive, but you can find it. if you're looking for the vinyl version, good luck. you'll pay $80+ for it, if you can even find someone selling it. Sasha & Digweed used the "Geomantik" track in their Northern Exposure 2 cd set. of all the records they played in that set, it's one of the most difficult to find.

in any case, I absolutely love electronic music. give me an idea what you're into, ie, trance (which Prana gets lumped under), house, techno, etc, and I can give you some recommendations. if you're looking for stuff available in the UK, try Amazon's UK site, www.amazon.co.uk. it's actually a pretty good deal for most stuff, as you'll get 15% off the prices (VAT is either not in the prices, or deducted when you go to check out), and the shipping is CHEAP for an overseas company.

Right now, like I said, I'm interested in the Geomantick Cd(I'll take a cd at this point). The one in the amazon link is of German release, and I'd rather have the North american/Uk release. It sucks that it's the hardest one to find because it has one of my favorite "Psytrance" songs of all time on it; "Boundless". In addition to that, I'm looking for a good price on a Digital Orgasm cd that has the track "Moog Eruption" on it(single is fine). Let's see, various Cydonia cds, Man Made Man (Drama), The Delta, Johann, 1200 micrograms, Cybernaut, The Orb (I know these are easy to find, but I'm looking for U.F. ORB at a reasonable rate) Union Jack's There Will Be No Armmageddon for less than 25 bucks (this is probably easy to find) Renegade Legion, Nitzer Ebb, Necton (B12 Cocktail) . That's all I can think of for now. Some of these I know what sites serll them, but they're all out of stock, I'm basically looking for a lot of GOA, Psytrance, and Acid but if you know of any really good electronic music sites I'd like to hear about it. Always looking to broaden my horizons. As for Sasha and Digiweed's Northern Exposure; I'm not a big fan, but there's surely some quality in it.

Sorry for the double post, but the reason I don't have several of these cds is because of the UK cost, I mean, when the cd is already 24 pounds with a 8 pund shipping cost, it runs into "Make my wallet cry" territory. I'll check out the Amazon Uk Site though, thanks.

if you don't mind, could one of you please explain what you find enjoyable about techno? i really don't enjoy it, and am very perplexed as to why other people do. so if you could maybe help me understand, that would be pretty neat.

I don't know, why don't you explain to me why you like your music? I just like it, like I enjoy the taste of chocolate or a warm summer day. I could go into some huge spiel about how it represents the base instinctual reaction humans have to music, but that's a bunch of shit. I enjoy it because I enjoy it. I honestly feel that the reason more people don't enjoy it is because of what they're brainwashed into thinking "Techno" is (Darude, Oakenfold Robert Miles etc).

i was just curious. i'll refrain from ripping on it because that wouldn't accomplish anything, but i would like to point out that i have been exposed to a wide variety of "electronic" music (although it's all techno to me). me saying i don't like it isn't from some person who has only heard...i don't know, bad boy bill? (the kids like him, right? while we're on that topic, how can you call yourself "bad boy bill" and still look at yourself in the mirror every morning?)

anyways, i'll answer my own question to show it's somewhat doable. i like some bands that write good songs. some are unique, some write great lyrics, some are really sad and depressing, others are angry, whatever. the underlying theme to all of it is that it comes across as genuine, and that's something that i find hard to swallow about techno. that, and the fact that it gives me a massive headache. seriously, like we have techno djs come in to where i work every year during the detroit techno-fest thing (labor day weekend), and i guess it's a bunch of different sub-genres or whatever, all i know is that half of them "perform" off of laptaps, if you call that performing. then again, i don't call spinning records performing either. anyways, they usually turn it up too loud and it makes me physically ill to listen to it. besides, every other day i have to hear the techno throbbing out of the dance room when i go to work.

oh well.

Again, that's all a relative point of view. I, personally, can't stand this nu rock or punk crap. I find it to be the same whiny, half-hearted, self-righteous bullshit over and over again. But you know, some people like it like some people like Celine Dion. For the record, anyone who "performs" off of a laptop is NOT a DJ. You are not a Dj unless you can mix and that immediatly disqualifies practically all of them. Electronica is ( I know it sounds corny) a kind of pure music to me. It covers a much broader spectrum than most people realize and it's not just for dumbass Meth huffing ravers. It can be angry, it can be joyous, cold, indifferent, hopeful, or full of despair. What I like most about electronica is that it accomplishes this wide range of emotion without the use of extensive lyrics and to me that is real talent.

And again, I'm not trying to say my music is better, I'm just saying the whole "annoying" factor is a two-way street.

as I own a mixer, turntables, and rather large record collection, I take offense to you saying spinning records is not performing. it takes quite a bit of technical skill to beat-match two records, much less three, or to combine turntables with other equipment, such as cd decks or laptops. besides that, djs, like any other musicians, alter the mood of a performance by what they play, in this case records. they're not always playing their own music, but what is played brings an immediate reaction from the crowd. how is this different from any other performer?

hmm... if you're already biased, then I'm not sure why I bothered responding :?

A great deal of credit should be given to a good mixer. They have more talent than most of today's "artists". Back on track though, I think I'll just break down and buy Geomantik off Amazon as soon as I have money to burn. 20 for a used cd is a little much for me though. I wish there was a site devoted to electronic music cds, damn that'd be sweet.

I like trance. Its hard to explain why. It just gets me in the zone. Like some one said, it is pure music. I never liked it much either, then a friend brought over some good techno. I love driving listing to it. Especially when I drive from wisconsin to connecticut.

Tanks for the post, but the reserve price is way too high for a vinyl. I don't care how rare it is, it's not worth over 100 USD. Why must she be so expensive? Cruel world.

that's how I feel about it as well, but the reality is there's a much smaller supply than could possibly meet the demand. this is something I wish I owned :?

we talk about rare video games being printed in thousands or tens of thousands of copies... rare records range from around 1000 copies down to 1 or 2 pressings.
