GBA, best system ever?

Before I bought a GBA I used to talk a lot of shit about them.

It looked like most of the best games for it were either ports of games I already had, RPGS (which I don't like) or multiplayer games (which have little use if none of your friends have a GBA. And even if they do you need two system and 2 copies of a game to play together. It's cheaper and easier to just go to someone's house and play a multi-player console game). Gameboy games are also not much cheaper than GC games since they come on cartirdges and even used rarely ever go under $15. Heck, a new SP is the price of a GC! Everything about them told me that they were an inferior system designed for kids with rich parents. But I eventually got a cheapy used model for $20 on black friday just so I could play the Zelda: Oracle games.

And holy shit, was I wrong about the GBA! I haven't played a whole lot of games for it yet, but those that I've played are some of the best games I've ever played, and I'm not one of those types who constantly changes their mind about such a statement. So far I've played:

-Zelda: the oracle games (yeah, I know they're GBC games, but since a used old model of the GBA is hardly any more money you might as well get one. But the backwards compatibility is half of what makes the GBA rule)
-Metroid Fusion & Zero Mission
-Castlevania: CotM, and AoS
-Astro Boy

and of these 7 games the worst I played was Aria of Sorrow and even that was a near great game. The rest were all truly great. And while they may not be the longest games in the world or have the greatest graphics they are pure fun plain and simple. And a short length means little when it's so fun you'd want to play through it multiple times just for the heck of it. The simplicity of 2D gaming is a lost art rarely seen in consoles anymore, and I'm hoping that it won't get lost on portables with the PSP and DS. Heck, even if the games I mentioned above are the only good games ever released for the system it would still be worth it, especially at its relatively low price tag. While I like my GC and it probably has more good games for it, the quality of the best GBA games vs the best GC games I'd say the GBA would win. I'm curious what Nintendo has up their sleeves for the Revolution because they've proven they can handle creating good ideas over advanced technology.

Amazing little system. Do yourself a favor and pick up a gameboy player for when your'e at home. The SP is still is the reigning champ of handhelds. Mainly for:

1. Massive gaming library
2. Light
3. Size
4. Battery Life

I like my DS and I'm sure I will like my PSP but they are bigger and don't have as much battery life. The GBA is a true monster of a game machine.

There are a small selection of games that are multiboot (meaning you only need to have one cartridge to play multiplayer on two systems). There is also WarioWare, where you only need one GBA and one copy of the game to play multiplayer - one player takes the right shoulder button and the other one takes the left shoulder button.

Finally, someone who agrees with me. I always have people look at me weird when I say the GBA is the greatest system ever. It's got the largest library, the largest amount of high-quality titles, it's portable... need I go on?

I love the GBA SP. It is the last bastion of 2d gaming.

Just bought a GBA & some games yesterday with Gamerush credit. I am very impressed with it. Hopefully I will find so good games at Gamestop on my lunch break today...gotta' build that game library.

GBA = best games ever, but as far as the hardware itself goes, they've been way overrated.

The GBA needs no explaination. The GBA sp lacked a headphone jack, and it should have been backlit. Not to mention the GBA & GBA sp have low quality screens.

GBA = a piece of crap half assed system (aka no backlight) which made it virtually unplayable in many areas.

GBA SP = much better, should have had a hedphone port jack but it's what the GBA should have been when it came out. I'm sure Nintendo planned it this way anyway to milk the cattle.

As for best system ever? not sure about that =p. I found myself only ever finishing the Castlevania games on my GBA and most of the other ones just collected dust. It still is (GBA SP) the most portable handheld though.
