I keep going back and forth with getting this...mainly because I'm wondering if my $300 (PSP value pack + Spider-Man 2) in EB credit could be spent better elsewhere. I'm sure I will like the PSP it's just I can't help but think how I could get 3 gamecubes or 2 PS2's for what I am spending (well actually I'm not spending anything as it is free after the TRU\EB deal) but still. Anyone else having second thoughts?

It does upset me that the controls suck for Darkstalkers...meaning they will stink for all fighters. Plus most of these games are something I have played before.

I'm tempted but I think I'm going to wait a while until there is something I really want to play that comes out for it. I'd also like to pay $200 or less for the system alone instead of being forced to spend an extra $50 on crap if I want to buy a PSP...

First off, can you please elaborate on the TRU/EB deal?

Second, I would personally recommend waiting. Sony is infamous for having shotty first gen hardware. There were defects with the first gen PS1s, there were defects with the first gen PS2s, so I'm willing to bet there will be defects on first gen PSPs(other than what's already been listed i.e. dead pixels, sticky square button, etc.)

Right now the PSP is at a premium price because its so new. Also, the game selection is somewhat lacking IMO. The PSP is a very sexy device and when you first play games on it, I'm sure you'll think its great. But, after that initial hype wears off, I'll bet you find that its maybe not as great as you anticipated since most of the games are simply downgraded console ports.

I, personally, would recommend waiting for the price to go down, make sure all the kinks are worked out in the hardware, and wait for some killer apps to come out.

TRU had old garbage games for 90% off making some games $1.00. EB had a trade in any 2 non-sports games and get an extra $10 in credit at the same time...last month. So I traded in a bunch of games that I bought cheap and made money on each transaction. Then I took the good games from the TRU sale and sold them on Ebay to cover the cost of my intial TRU purchases. = Free PSP w\ Game.

Not one second thought at all. You have been going back and forth with this for awhile. Might be better off just saving the credit untill you find something you really want.

A bigger question is why you would want multiple GameCubes or PS2s. Are you that intent on LAN parties? Do you already have one of each?

For myself, the PSP is the only hardware of note I don't already own. The only other thing I'd be doing with the credit is buying games for the GBA and DS (since I cannot currently use anything else) or cashing out to pay bills. So long as I think of it as $125 for a PSP and several games/accessories I have no problems. If I'd had to pay anything like full price there is no way I'd bother untila price drop and good availability of used games.

I own a Gamecube and a PS2. I might pick up another gamecube at some point to store away but I was merely stating at how much I could get for my $300.

As far as grabbing new games to play it isn't worth it to me as I never pay $50 for a new game. I ususally wait until they are much cheaper. It doesn't bother me as I have enough backlog to keep me occupied.

I am most likely going to get the PSP as my pre-order is already paid in full and I didn't pay a red cent for it. I am just wondering if anyone else was thinking about what their $300 could get them as opposed to a PSP.

You can give miyamoto more money for gaming rehashes =).

I recommend you just go through with your preorder and ebay it =p

And all of PSP titles are NOT rehashed? C'mon. There's a handful of actual original games on it. However, thats still not keeping me from buying it.

I hesitantly bought an Xbox years ago about a couple months after launch (when it had no games) and I really regretted it. I ended up selling it at a loss. Then again, I also bought a Saturn hastily (when they were $80 at EB) and really enjoyed my time with it. If I were you, i'd hold off as it's not going anywhere, but only time will tell if you made a good decision or not.

I think by saying that you are getting it for free, you are answering your own question. I too exploited the TRU/EB deal to get my PSP for about $65.
I had preordered one at EB right when they first started taking POs, but cancelled it when the steep launch price was announced. There is just no way I would spend that much out-of-pocket for a PSP, but I got a new preorder when I got in on the TRU deal. I couldn't justify buying one if i was paying full-price; but since it's cheap for me (or FREE for you!), it seems worth it.

I have 1 game already and 5 pre paid along with the system pre paid, so I have no second thoughts.

I have 2 PSPs preordered and 10 games all paid off and I dont regret it. I didnt use a trade in deal either. I definately say go for it.

I'd say go for it since its pretty much free. I dont think there is a better thing to get with the credit, plus, as noted earlier, if you dont like it, ebay it!

I'm going to get one but not for a while since I just got a DS and I'm going to Japan where I want to spend 300 on something more practical (tech wise .)

Nope, no second thoughts at all. Lumines is easily worth $300.

i also have the concern about launch hardware, i pre-ordered mine at GR with credit and they don't offer an extended warranty so i may just eBay it, i'd also like to see the reviews of the launch games and maybe even play a little bit in the store before i crack the seal

In 6-8 months the Next Xbox will be rolling out at that price if by any chance at all you might pick that up sit on the credit. Let the first gen PSP go and wait for a price drop..

ON TOPIC: To the original poster, I would say hold off on it. You can keep the store credit on the account and have the benefit of learning from other early adopters. If people end up loving it and you love it after trying, then go ahead and buy, the credit will still be there. But if you just make the purchase without trying or learning from others' impressions, there's always the chance you won't like it and will regret using the credit when the next gen systems come around and you wish you had that credit.

Personally im going to wait for a price drop. I have too much to play right now anyway to buy a new system. Besides, my fiancee would shoot me if I dropped that much money on anything right now.
