Another Resident Evil 4 review
For GCN 1 player M for Mature ![]() It looked as though the Resident Evil series had it’s best days behind it and was just pushing the same crap like Capcom (RE’s maker) does with Mega Man. Well something wonderful happened. The people making RE 4 felt the same way and may of made the best game of 2005. Zombies-gone. Fixed camera-gone. Umbrella-gone. In it’s place is a camera that is behind Leon’s shoulder and a strange cult of human like people with the need to kill you along with creatures not natural to this world. The story goes that Leon from RE 2 is now a special agent for the American government and his assignment is to find and rescue the president’s kidnapped daughter Ashley Gram. He gets a lead that takes him somewhere in Europe (most likely Spain since the people speak Spanish) and finds the worst tourist location in the world. The game has a lot more action and less puzzles than the previous RE games. You don’t even come across a puzzle until an hour into the game. New to the series is twitch* gameplay, merchants and a changed inventory. The merchants supply you with weapons, and RPG like weapon upgrades in exchange for money and treasure you find throughout the game. Your inventory has you placing ammo, weapons and health items in a case Tetris style (each item takes up so many blocks). Key items and treasure have unlimited space. Your enemies are often the same four models with some clothing changes but you’re too busy shooting them to notice most of the time. And there are so many different monsters around (giant trolls, lake monster, bugs that can turn invisible and more). The locations never get boring in the 20 hours it takes to beat the game the first time. It starts off at a village but you will find yourself in a castle and then an industrial island with Ashley tagging along sometimes. She has to be the best tag-a-long ever in a video game. She gets behind you when monsters attack, ducks so you can get a clear shot and does what you tell her to do. The graphics and detail is so great that this is what you will think next generation system graphics will look like until you actually see the next generation graphics. This game is a must buy for anyone who owns a GCN! 10 out of 10 __________________________________________________ ___________ *What is Twitch? Twitch gameplay is when a button shows up on the screen and you need to press it quickly or else you get hurt or die. Do not worry however since RE 4 lets you retry an unlimited number of times even in normal gameplay. Another type of twitch is when an enemy comes at you quickly. Contra and space shooters are good examples. ![]() ![]()
