I was walking down flatbush ave in brooklyn today like I do everyday and I noticed that the pawn shop on the corner of flatbush and lafayette (across the street from the BAM) has the exact same fist of money logo as featured in the cheapassgamer logo

scandalous!

Flak Beard what do you have to say for yourself?

I hope people make as big a deal out of this as need be. Legit, not cool at all.

Did it occur to anyone that the fist full of dollars may be clip-art or some other copyright-free image for publication? Just a thought.

I live in Brooklyn too, but I have no idea where you are talking about, lol.

BTW: Did either of you recently pick up any new penny guides at the Best Buy here in Brooklyn? When I went there on monday night they were gone, but I saw them on saturday. :(

I thought that, but the thread is more sensational if we don't talk about it.

ive never priced guides before. im too lazy to take something to the register to just have it ring up 1499 and then i have to return it. but ive never seen these reduced games that they speak of like batman, or dark cloud2, or fatal frame. these just dont exist in brooklyn or anywhere near it.

I have placed a map with a red dot marking the site of interest in my gallery. I've never been to the bestbuy in brooklyn (not conveniently located for me) and I'm not interested in players guides (even for a penny).

Maybe the image is in public domain and not copyrighted material? I don't know how one would go about figuring that out though.

First off, I'd like to point out that the fist of money is not to be considered the "logo". The fist, money and text layout makes up the logo in it's entirety, and only in it's entirety can it be considered a "logo". For a logo to be "ripped off", another company/site would have to have the same exact logo (in it's entirety).

Yes the fist itself was borrowed from a un-copyrighted art library that I own. It is royalty free and can be used for logos or any other design purpose. I would like to mention though, that the original fist art was different. I changed it over 50% removing uneeded portions and making other tweaks, so this was more than a drag-and-drop process (I'm not that lazy lol  ). That alone makes is ok to use, but like I said before, it is un-copyrighted.

It is also quite possible that the fist is not same one. There are thousands of logos around the world that use the same concept. I'd admit, that would be interesting if it was because as I stated before, I changed the original art 50%. That means the pawn shop would had to have made the same exact alterations as me.

Bottom line, CAG is safe. The logo was not ripped off and is ok for CAG to use. I just used what resources I had available, keeping everything legit.

No hard feelings Flak. I think everyone is taking this thread more seriously than I intended. It was supposed to be funny. Although I really did see the fist, I'll post a pic soon so we can compare side by side.
