Non-Spoiler Review of "Unleashed"
The movie stars Jet Li who has a bit of an identity problem. He thinks he's a dog FOR: * Some inspired casting. Jet Li and Morgan Freeman is unusual enough for one movie. Bob Hoskins makes the perfect bad guy. I really liked the fact that cast Kerry Condon (who is not a glamour gal) instead of the typical hollywood bimbo. * The fight scenes are fantastic * The concept of the story is pretty original. AGAINST: * People expecting wall to wall action are going to be dissapointed. Most of the film is very talky. I would say 1/4 to 1/5 of the movie is action. * Some of the emotional scenes don't really have a certain 'weight' or impact. * I keep wondering why there are no police around. People are getting beat up everywhere. Whats up with that? CONCLUSION: I give this 4 out of 5 paws. People bitch about how Hollywood recycles old ideas over and over again. Here is a movie that tries some new ideas and injects some livelyness to it. Yeah, some of the dramatically scenes are not as great as they could be but still this is a very good film. I recommend this as a date movie too because it has something for guys (the action, violence) and something for the ladies (the story, drama). |

I just got back from seeing it a little while ago, and I must say, I quite liked it. It's nice to see Jet Li doing something other than wall to wall asskicking, and he actually did a pretty good job portraying that lost naivete that his character required. The story was interesting, the acting well done, and the fight scenes were nicely choreographed. The movie wasn't really about the action, which was nice. The action was there because of the story, as opposed to the other way around.

I agree, just saw it tonight as well. A definite step-up from The One. When describing it to a friend, I told him it felt more like one of Jet Li's HK action fliks, simply because of its strong focus on story. It's a definite DVD-buy for me.

Thanks for the insight. I enjoy almost all Morgan Freeman movies, same for Jet Li. I'll probably check this out.

I've been hearing good things about this movie, and the previews made me want to see it all the more. Looks like a continuing trend for a great year of movies.
