As a gamer today I fond myself pee-your-pants excited about the next generation. This is going to be the generation that matches FMV's for visuals... its going to be the breakthrough generation for online gaming... its going to be amazing. Micosoft and Sony are goign to hav my gaming dollars no doubt... both have stepped up their games and it seems like for the first time in a long time I'm excited and inspired by what both companies are doing.

As a Nintendo fan today I'm a wee bit apprenhensive. I never thought PS3 would have such an amazing showing (shame about the controller... it'll be fixed if it needs to be I'm sure) and Microsoft's announcement about FFXI is enough for me to keep my live subscription (I've been waiting for a great, live-based MMORPG for a while). Nintendo has got the advantage and the curse of being last... and not last by an hour or two... last by essentially a day. People are going to be able to sleep on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 tonight... ingest all that amazing footage... and the "next-generation" of videogames.

What this means is that Nintendo CANNOT concentrate on the GCN. For all intensive purposes... in my eyes at this press release the GCN is dead... I know whats coming in the future for the GCN... show it on the floor... not at the Press conference.

Concentrate on the Ds a bit. Solidify my purchase with games I can't even IMAGINE. Show me an NDS Network that is both easy to use and unique. Make the DS portion of the PC a jab... quick... yet powerful. Then move along.


We've seen how AMAZING the next-gen is going to look... Nintendo has been saying all along that this next-gen isn't going to satisfy the needs of the market. The Revolution needs to show us how. The Revolution must either be:A console very similar to PS3/Xbox 360... but with a library of badass gme/franchise games to back it up... or something so different and AMAZING that gamers will need to have it.

Nothing else will do. No doubt about it... Sony and Microsoft have put the pressure on... nows the time to steal the show. I need to be told enough about the Revoltion that I can say without a doubt... PS3? 360? Same ol' shit different smell... the Revolution is the future of gaming. Nintendo cannot make shots in the dark... they cannot hint at anything. They've got to give us the full truth about this thing... or at least enough to tide us over into SpaceWorld. If we hear the words "we don;t want our competitors to steal our ideas"... Nintendo has failed in my eyes.

I think that they need to start with DS online. They need to show both Mario Kart and Animal Crossing, up and running online. They need to show the interface and the ease of use. People will be very excited by this. Then they need to do a knock your socks off presentation of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that will blow us away and have everybody on their feet (or having convulsions and strokes, laid out on the press room floor). And this should take up twenty to thirty minutes up to this point. Don't stretch it out at all, just give the meat. Then they need to do a full blown unveiling of the Revolution. They need to tie into the DS (and GBE?). They need to show the online abilities. They need to do a montage of the release games (1st, 2nd and especially 3rd party). Then they need to show the system and specs (they can leave the controller and whatever is revolutionary out if need be). And this all will ensure that all ambulences in the L.A. area will be rushed to the building. And it will also ensure that no one will give a flying fart about the other two companies.

This amount of info will ensure that A.) there will still be more left for them to talk about and divulge (there is no way that they can get too specific with this amount of info), B.) They will show their hand enough to let everyone know for a surety that they are more than serious and C.) This will be just enough to leave everyone begging for and anticipating more (unlike the others, which seem like, "Okay that's cool. Now where's Nintendo?").

After seeing the xbox 360 and ps3 i'm really hoping to see the revolution. The only thing I know for sure is it can't be any uglier than the other 2.

I hope Nintendo really wows me (they always have). They're my last beacon of hope for the next generation...I don't think I like what the next generation is likely to bring. I'm probably just going to go back to playing nothing post-SNES era. I'm that sick of the mainstreaming of gaming.

I'm with the OP-- the PS3 and 360 both have me profoundly excited, like "Xmas day when your 9 years old" excited!

I'm gonna watch that conference tomorrow, but somethings telling me Nintendo is just going to give us a couple of morsels to chew on about the Rev. On their site it says stuff about revealing small details about it over the course of the next few months. that statement worries me a bit.

I just don't think they'll tell us all that we need to know about it or go all out in presenting it. There's a lot of hype and I think it's entirely possible for Nintendo to just stay afloat without claiming any major victories in the next gen, just like the have done with the Cube, but I'd rather see them wow us with something that kicks the shit out of M$' glorified Media center pc and can at least hang with Sony's fresh coat of paint.

Nintendo is like the crazy old man in a kung fu movie: he's psychotic, looks like he could kick the bucket at any moment, and you might fear for him a little when that group of ninjas surrounds him, but you know that somehow he'll bust out some crazy moves and take out the group, since he has ages of wisdom and training under his belt. <---that's my 3am metaphor
Of course, either way, I'll own all 3.

and the no HD support better be a nintendo bluff, cuz thats the worst thing they could do

the revolution is posed to be more powerful than the xbox 360
but wouldn't no hd support make the games look worst than the xbox 360?

It's from IGN. There's no doubt about it. That IS the Revolution.

But at the moment, that's the only pic. But the show is mere hours away...and we will be seeing plenty of it then.

true true... damn i just checked IGN's e3 coverage and they have quoted nintendo on saying that the Revolution will be merely 'two or three times more powerful than the GCN'.. if that is true, it is very alarming. That puts it completely out of the technological race, which means that Nintendo must be banking very heavily on the 'revolutionary' aspect of the console. Ive been with the big N since day one and they have yet to dissapoint me (well, the DS is slacking but im confident it will pick up) and I prey they know what they are doing. Still I will be giddy like a little girl come tomorrow morning.. heres to hoping the revolution lives up to its name...

Ya know what I think? I think Nintendo is reverse-bluffing. They want to catch people off-guard. I'd bet the cow that it's far, far more powerful that what that report is saying.

Reggie is going to walk on stage and take names, that should take up a good 15 minutes. then he is going to kick some ass (that should take another 20). then he is going to wow us with the Revolution, rest of the program. it's going to be awesome. i can't wait to see what nintendo has for us.

Quick thoughts:

I've been looking forward to the Nintendo conf. more so than the other ones.

If the no-HD thing is true, then Nintendo has already lost this generation. It would be the equivelant of the Gamecube's online stance.

If those USA Today shots are real, then the Revolution might be my favorite looking console.

We still don't know what puts the "Revolution" in Revolution. Nintendo hasn't even taken the handkerchief off yet, and I'm already thinking about how they're going to fare in the next-gen.

It'll be interesting to see how things go next gen. I picture A LOT of people owning either the ps3/360, in addition to the Revolution. I can see it being a popular console, but I don't know how many people would own it exclusively.
