Swiching Dreamcast to Different Case

My local independant game shop has different cases for DC that are colored and see-through. I was a little puzzled about how to transfer the DC over and he said he'd do it if I was okay with the fact that he might mess up the DC. Now, I'm looking for a second DC at the moment since my first one's 1st controller port is burnt out. Sure, I can get along fine without the 1st controller port, but since you can get the system for cheap and it'd just be cool to have two, then I'm gonna get another one. So the question is, should I use the screwed up one, the new one, or not do it at all?

Cons of using screwed up one--I wouldn't have the fully functional one in the case and so I'd probably wouldn't be using this one the most out of the two
Cons of using the new one--He might screw up and that would suck especially since I just bought it
Cons of not doing it at all--I wouldn't have such a cool DC to show off

The screw-up rate is rather low. Everything fits into place. I haven't switched the case on my DC but I have taken my DC apart multiple times.

The only part that would be scary is the ribbon connection to the laser assembly. That thing is rather flimsy.

I say go for it with the new one. You can used the one with the fried controller port for backup parts.

agreed. I took mine apart because the part that holds the disc in place fell down the hole inside the system. Teh ribbon is the only thing you have to worry about

Well, he's not charging extra for it so I'd figure I'd just let him do it. Anyway, this is and independant game shop and most of their games are fairly good prices. But the accesories and sytems are a different story. For instance, they're selling a DC with a controller and a game of your choice for $39.99. Sure, you could be lucky and pick out a rare game to make it worth it, but I doubt it. And the funny thing is you can get a DC at EB for $15 with a free controller. So naturally the DC cases are over-priced, or atleast I think they are. He has three different kinds. All semi-see-through, one is hazy black, one purple, two just clear. I was interested in the clear one but it's not fully clear, just semi. But they are $19.99 each, is that a good price? I'm thinking it's not but I don't know anything about these cases so I could be wrong.

yeah I have my DC in a clear white case. It was pretty easy. Just take it apart and put it back in the new case. It's not like an xbox that has tons of screws. Do it your self, it's not hard. Also there is a way to fix blown controller ports. You need some a new resister or something from radio shack and solder them into place. Some people on the DC gamefaqs board know how to do it.

Well, you say that was super cheap, then $20 is a good or okay price as well?

20 bucks isn't the cheapest price, but it's not that expensive. Ebay has a them every once and awhile. Maybe you should wait till you can find one one ebay you like. here is a yellow one. I'm a big DC fanboy so I would have paid 20 bucks for the shell.
