I'm guessing we'll get the DS version of Mario 64, and the all-stars versions of the first three mario games and lost levels. Wondering what else will get updated...

Maybe they will just be like how Nintendy remade Mario 1-3 for Mario All-Stars on the SNES.

Let's hope they don't pull a sega and screw up the classics.

They mention in the article the gameplay will stay intact. These will be graphical only updates.

They need to give Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie a Mario Sunshine coat of paint.
They need to give Ocarina of Time a Twilight Princess coat of paint.
They need to give Super Metroid and the Mario games a Viewtiful Joe (or something similar) coat of paint.
They need to give Donkey Kong 64 a dirt nap.

I wonder if KI Gold will ever be available. I know it's Rare, but do those licenses still remain if they were made for Nintendo at one time?

I think it'd be interesting to see some NES games get the DKC rendered sprite treatment. It's got to be easy and quick to do, you just make sure the new sprites are the same dimensions and you replace the files.

It depends on the terms of the license. My guess is that when the two parted ways they just split up the IP rights going forward. As for older, already published games that's probably a tricky area. If Nintendo wanted to publish KI again they might be able to but I doubt they would be allowed to make any changes/improvements to the game without Rare's permission.

Well the Mario All-Stars version games wouldn't be a remake because it was already 4 games remade? Plus the DS version of Mario 64 is in the bag so why not use it? I just pulled some examples.

Watch as they make Jet Force Gemini better than Splinter Cell.

I really could care less about any more updates to old games. Nintendo give it a rest and make some new stuff please.

I don't mind update to old games if they update gameplay to make it fun to play.

First of all, they said it was only something they're considering. Second, if they do this, they'd better give us an option of playing with both new and old graphics. Tweaking the resolution or fixing flicker and framerate is one thing. But what they really screwed it up - for example, what if they ruined Super Metroid's art direction?

Iwata talked aboubt how they were toying with the original Super Mario Bros. to see if they could implement new things. My thoughts are, "Of course they can. A multi-billion dollar company not knowing if they can rework their own game that is over twenty years old? Bah..." I think they aremore than just retooling things. I think that they are working on the possibility of consumer ended customization of old classics. Don't ask me how, I sure don't know. But I would guess that that is what Nintendo is trying to figure out.

(Besides, as has been mentioned, the original SMB has already been remade. For him to say that, something has to be up.)
