One thing that the xbx does well is put enough fans in their console where heat doesnt become a issue.

But with my ps2 slim it seems like the system and the game get so hot almost to a boiling point.

Is this a issue?

Mine gets a little warm but it's never given me an issue. Hell I couldn't get to a save point in GTA:SA so I left it on for abour 3 hours while I was out.

Mine works perfectly - no heat issues at all.

Since the case is smaller, you can feel the heat... the slim and the old PS2 produce the same amount of heat, except you couldn't feel it in the old, bigger PS2.

So no, it's NOT an issue, unless it causes a fire or something. Just be smart where you put it.

Mine seems fine so far. I never would have gotten one, but my first, normal PS2 died on me a few months ago. Damn sony hardware.

Nothing to be worried about? heh. I wonder... My friend's ps2 slim's lens MELTED. I dunno why. (maybe it has to do with the fact that his pstwo is actually a modded system that 99% of the times is made to read DVD-R / CDR games) - He lives in Southeast asia, Original games don't come cheap there).

Off-topic: Even though I just recently bought a psp (good thing i got 0 dead pixels, no bubbles, and no dust under the screen), I am actually very-VERY tired of SONY's gaming systems.

Here's why:
My first ps1 (scph 1001) broke after 2 years of playing (It skipped and skipped to the point that even turning the system upside-down didn't do a thing- I had to buy the lens replacement for $70 to fix that).
Note: My ps1 was used to read CDr games, which might have shortened th life of my system... or which i thought so...

My second Playstation: the PS2 (SCPH 30001). Broke in 2 years. I got the stupid DRE even on NEW , unscratched CD games. Because I had a premodded PS1 in the past, I thought this would never happen because the system was not modded, and I only used it to read ORIGINAL discs. Oh well, it crapped in two years. SOld it in ebay for $60.

My third Playstation product: PSX (DESR 7000) with 250GB hard drive. A highend DVD player , DVD recorder, and PS1 and PS2 in one. The memory stick slot and the harddrive broke in just 6 months and I couldn't get them fixed since SONY usa doesn't cover imported SONY goods from Japan.... SIgh....

That's why now after I am done playing with my PSP (at home), I would Open the drive, take the UMD out, and blast the inside of the drive with cold air from the ENDUST DUSTER... just to avoid any lens meltdown, or skipping problem in the future... LOL ( I think I am the first one to do this).---- Or maybe you can try opening the psTWO's drive lid after you are done playing with it to cool it off? ANyway, My friend's psTWO lens DID melted, just in case you are wondering whether I am just kidding...
