Soft reset?

Weird question, but I couldn't find this on a search - Why doesn't the x-box have a soft reset button? Am I missing something? I can't believe all that thought came into the hd, interface, etc...and they forget to put a freakin' reset button, so I have to turn it on and off instead?!!? It's always annoyed me...

why do you need one? Can you not access the menu of whatever game your playing anymore? What help would a soft reset provide? The only reason I could see for using a soft reset is if the game locks up, and then, I imagine that Microsoft believew that their products don't lock up, and therefore there is no need for a soft reset.

Half the time on my ps2 the soft reset doesn't even work right, I have to hold it for 5 sec and let it shutoff and then I can reboot....

I agree, it's dumb that there isn't one on there.

Some games don't bother putting a "quit" button in their pause menu...overall, it just makes sense to have one...

well then, I'd be more pissed at not having the option of quitting at any point... how hard is that to program into software?

Ya know, I've been wondering the same thing but never thought to ask.

I can't tell you how many times it's happened:
  • game freezes
  • get up, walk over to XBox
  • push "reset" button
  • walk back, sit down
  • console powers down
  • D'oh!
  • get back up ...

LOL, why are you so dead set against one being on there? Did a reset button run over your dog or something?

It's a standard feature on almost every console and it only makes sense to have one on there.

Eh, who cares...more games than not have a controller combination to reset the game...I don't recall the last time I needed to use a reset button.

I agree that the Xbox should have a soft reset, but even then it's not necessary, it just would save me a few seconds every other month or so.

How did you know? I will never buy another console with a soft reset button, in memory of Fluffy. Rest in peace big fella:

ok, this really wasn't my dog, but I happened across it whild doing a GIS and the story is friggin hilarious (in a wierd demented way (hey, at least the outcome was good)). Read about it here

And, I'm not dead set against, I just consider it a non-issue, as the one on my PS2 is never used, so I was just playing the "no soft reset button" advocate. Actually as far as the xbox is concerned, I wish there was a way to go to the main system menu from a game or with a game in there instead of having to leave the tray open.... (there isn't a way to do that is there?)

I believe the soft reset from the controller is built into the machine, too. That's why Microsoft didn't think to do that, either....And believe me I wouldn't be annoyed if I could do a soft reset from the Xbox controller...oh, well - hope the next X has one.

thats probably the point where MS said "Ya know, i think this things too big. another button and we may need to sell home owners insurance with each box"

Ive gotten used to it. i mean, my computer doesnt have a soft reset button. you turn it off when it f's up, and then turn it back on again.

Heh ...I guess I didn't make that clear enough. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you do a soft reset from the controller that is a feature built into the machine. That's why w/ a DC or GCN you can reset from the controller w/ every game - the manufacturer added that extra feature, it's not part of the software.

Anyway this is all a moot point, I still enjoy my xbox, but wish they put just that much more thought into it.[/i]

It's just a damn reset button. I mean take a note at how fast the Xbox loads. Maybe that's why there isn't any reset buttons
