Is it just the collectiablity factor? Or is there more to it? As I see it its just the same game cheaper right?

True. Also, it appears to me that some people around here buy games to put them on a shelf and stare at. I think if you buy a game it should be to play the game so who gives a shit what the cover looks like as long as it works...

I usually try to avoid the greatest hits games, because I don't like the red greatest hits label thing. It's pretty annoying. I mean, they should have just sticked with the green ones on playstation. Most of my PS1 games are GH, and that doesn't bother me.

Greatest Hits, Player's Choice, Platinum Hits...whatever...doesn't really make much of a difference to me.

You can't do both? Play the game AND have it look nice when it's on your shelf? What's wrong with wanting that, anyway?

Easy, just buy one copy of each: one to play (GH) and one to collect (non).

If I had the choice, sure, I'd get the non GH case. Then again, if it was a game that I was that worried about the cover, I'd get it before it hit GH. Otherwise, I have a life family, and a job, I don't have time to stare at my shelf.

That totally defeats the purpose of calling this site Cheap Ass Gamer.

Personally I avoid them when possible, but playing games comes first, so I will not hesitate to purchase one.

The red Greatest Hits label is garish and its understandable why people hate them. I mean, don't we expect a certain level of attractiveness in every other product we buy?
Old 09-11-2005, 02:45 PM   #13
Why are you concerned that the people are concerned about Greatest Hits?
Old 09-11-2005, 02:48 PM   #14
I hate the red bar. I don't ever pay more than normal GH price for a non-GH though.

No, you can't. Most adults don't have their video game collections on display in their homes. No matter what you do, a shelf with CDs, DVDs and/or video games out for all to see looks unbelieveably bad. They should be kept in a drawer or in a cabinet. I cringe everytime someone posts OMG!!!1!!!111 CHECK OUT MY UBER RAD COLLECTION!!!111!!!!11 OMG!!!11!1!

I thought that when I'm able to grow up I'd have the opportunity to have a more mature, intelligent group of peers to get along with. As you get older, you get more tolerant to the stuff people are interested in, and realize that all that matters it who the person is. I really don't care if I go to someone's house and they have 6,000 games on display. Really -- I don't.

I think your statement is pathetic. You're how old and still that superficial? Go ahead and stereotype the people who put their collections (and hobbies) out on display... at least they're not taking the middle schooler approach of, "oh my god, what if someone else thinks this is lame?!"

Some people will say that people who buy Greatest Hits games just rode the bandwagon and bought it after it was popular. I don't agree.

I do prefer "original" games over the Greatest Hits ones. I think that my DVD rack looks awesome when all of the colors match. There's a pattern formed by the (upper) black trim part on the sides of cases that looks pretty neat. For a few games I did spend $2 or so buying the non-GH inserts over a site I knew of, but that's back when I had a steady income and pretty much no financial obligations. Then again, that was also back when I bought a game just 'cause it was cheap. I've certainly swayed away from that path, now.

I blame these guys

i figured that since i keep buying games with my college loans, i might as well have them look nice, hehe. besides, when i'm pulling all-nighters to study, looking over at my beautiful shelves of games motivates me.
