I've got a few various issues with Dells (both good and bad), but it's fairly easy to rack up on coupon codes to knock down the prices a good bit. Google a search on Dell coupon codes.
Also, I suggest picking up a Computer Shopper mag and checking some of the ads.

Dell runs deals occasionally where you can get a pretty nice laptop for under $1000. Circuit City also has sales quite often where you can pick up a notebook on the cheap. I think there's been a few topics on these forums about people who've got a laptop cheap from Circuit City recently. If you can wait a couple more months, I'm sure there'll be some killer deals on Black Friday, otherwise I'd say your best bet would be to check the ads every week.

This website has a bunch of good deals, including a bunch of dell coupons (i know you don't like them much, but maybe someone else can use them).

They are used. I purchased a dell about 3 years ago for $700 complete with docking station and 17" CRT...Im using it now to type this up. The service was great. My CD drive intermittently worked, so I shipped it back and they provided a brand new drive. I highly recommend them as a cheaper alternative, assuming you are willing to go with a used service. |
